Storm coverage will be pretty isolated today, but any storms that form across far SE New Mexico into West Texas could pose a large hail threat. There’s just enough shear and instability in the atmosphere to support a supercell or two with the strongest storms.

The incredibly strong El Niño event looks to continue through the winter, with major impacts expected to continue across the U.S. El Niño tends to shift the jet stream south during the cool season, October through May, changing the distribution of precipitation across the US.
As the system responsible for the trouble this week lifts north and east, shear will ease and slow storm motions in an otherwise moist and slightly unstable atmosphere.
