most cheesecake factory locations are in democratic-voting areas of the country. a big success story for the power of dense urban agglomeration opening up high quality consumer niches

Can we do away with that stupid "saxophones getting louder" sound on videos? Especially on something that's not dramatic? Some litter or spilled latté on a bus floor does not a 1980s dystopic NYC in a cop show make.

Oh I thought I made up a genre, but naturally both "atompunks" and "atomicpunks" is a thing, also associated with "raypunks" (raygun fiction era). Hi, I'm Tony, and I really like Futurama and Star Trek, advanced power gen without CO² emissions and watching YouTubes about and radiological incidents.

A new @pewresearch.org study finds that infill housing near jobs, stores, and transit costs governments ~$21,000 less per home to serve, cuts long term infrastructure maintenance costs in half, and generates 13% more in annual property tax revenue per acre than sprawl.

Today is the 134th anniversary of the beginning of the CTA Elevated Trains. On this day in 1892, the first "L" train ran from Pershing & State to Congress & Wabash. Chicago is the only city with elevated trains in its downtown area.

This is my biggest fear about these stupid things. Driver looks at their phone at a stop sign for a few seconds and, uhh... Yeah. We should tax these out of existence unless truly, actually needed.

I was playing catch with my 4 year old the other day on the sidewalk when this pickup parked next to us. These vehicles don't belong in neighborhoods.

I'm happy to say that I'm vehemently pro-trans and anti-fascist. I think we should let people be themselves and stand against the ideologies of people like, you know, Hitler, Mussolini and their followers. Come for me if you must, but I'm pretty firm on this. This isn't courageous—just correct.

Opinion: Hairless cats should have to wear shorts and a t-shirt to go outside like the rest of us mammals without full fur. *Wanders off murmuring something about frickin' alien nightmare fuel*

Chicago wind gauge

This required SO many tough choices to see if what's typed might actually come out as Chicago. Like, for batten, it could be "Beah'en" but that puts too much "y" in the middle like "yeah". Maybe "Ba'en" would have been better but it feels like we stress back out lips to make that sound.

So many wild glottal stops and doing stuff with the shape of your speech elements (tongue, cheeks, lip shape and more) that are unique. Folks try to do it but if you're not used to the weird tongue shapes you form to get our accent, it ends up sounding more Minnesotan/Canadian. Meanwhile, I got it?
