I code, I bike, and sometimes I get real crazy and do some 3D printing.

Someone get the man away from the Panda Express fortune cookies. They’re giving him ideas.

Good news, everyone! You get to do whatever you want! As long as you say you were trying to save the country, it’s all legal now.

Now look, this is on me for being lazy and buying frozen, but I don’t expect to be able to count the water chestnut slices in an “Asian vegetable medley”

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

Cool, cool, I have a close friend who’s in the hospital at this very moment. He’s on Medicaid because a severe accident left him unable to work. Man, I’m really feeling the “great again” part of this bullshit.

Senator Ron Wyden@wyden.senate.gov

NEW: My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night's federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health care from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.

I make lots of breakfast burritos in advance and freeze them. Dropped one this morning. Those suckers can do some damage.

Not saying I used to be a more up-tight person, but I am just now realizing how much I like sweatpants on a weekend.

About links, bluesky loves them. Please unlearn the link-in-reply tricks you've been doing elsewhere and proudly share your blog posts, videos, or any other external link in your top posts so we can all go and visit your fancy websites and then get back here to discuss and repost them. Thanks!

patak@patak.cat

Not only is X throttling external links, but it is also messing with its public pages. Without an account, you don't see the conversation if you go to a post. Instead, you get ads to sign up. If you visit profiles, the latest posts are not there. Useless for microblogging. Harmful to the open web.

If nothing else, ignore the national stage and focus on your local communities. There are going to be negative consequences (economic, medical, etc) hitting many of our of neighbors soon enough. Small actions still affect lives.

God@thegodshow.com

The only thing more dangerous than a vengeful president is an opposition that’s too despondent to fight back. “There won’t be an election in 4 years.” Oh really? Please. You don’t know what will happen tomorrow.

Work is branching out into privacy-first network monitoring software for the consumer market, and Google Ads has been a nightmare. Our website keeps getting arbitrarily flagged as "compromised". Granted, web dev isn't our main focus...but we're talking a static Nuxt site on Netlify. Just wild.

Haven't had a chance to mountain bike in...too long. But tires are still holding air, so that's a success! Just ignore the gravel bike over there that smells vaguely of sealant.

This whole "was it or was it not a salute" thing is a distraction because it inevitably devolves into an argument over intent. An endless free-for-all with an unprovable answer. I focus on actions. You can build people up, tear people down, or do nothing. I respect those who do the first.

You know, it's really difficult to do post processing on a 3D print when you forgot to actually start the print.

"Keys To The Country." I made this piece 4 years ago, it's made from fused US currency. Seems like a relevant metaphor today. #art #politics #inauguration #trump #democrats #jewelry #metalwork #resist #Biden #welding #oligarchy #musk #elonmusk #meta #artjewelry

Completely agree with this. I sent Bambu support a message respectfully stating the same thing yesterday.

Jeff Geerling@jeffgeerling.com

Bambu's firmware shenanigans are making me rethink ever recommending one again. They have to backtrack on it, or lose the goodwill of the 3DP community that is "open source but willing to give on value sometimes", which is not an insignificant sector.

You might think I’m loving Path of Exile 2 for the gameplay. Nope. It’s the tab management. The amount of dopamine I get from _sorting_ feels unhealthy.

It’s embarrassing the sheer number of times I’ve read “Gavin Newsom” and thought the article was about Gabe Newell.

Some of my LA friends have told me that the problem is climate change, and it is. It’s January for fucks sake. But that doesn’t mean we have to solve climate change to better control fire. If we wait for that, cities will keep burning. There are ways to mitigate risk. www.latimes.com/california/s...

latimes.comInconvenient truths about the fires burning in Los Angeles from two fire expertsFor years, renowned fire experts Jack Cohen and Stephen Pyne have tried to shift the conversation on fire prevention strategies. This week’s destruction, they say, could have been minimized.

After thinking about it for a hot sec…yeah he’s right. Brennan doesn’t have that “I am inherently better and funnier than you. Why are you not acknowledging that?” vibe that Katie has down to a T. Perfect Taskmaster material.

#FreeJavaScript update: Oracle has informed us they won’t voluntarily withdraw their trademark on "JavaScript". Next: they’ll file their Answer and we’ll start discovery to show how "JavaScript" is widely recognized as a generic term and not controlled by Oracle.

What's awesome about going to a rack mounted home networking setup is that it gives you the ability to fix all the things you broke by going to a rack mounted home networking setup.

Always good advice. I’m not saying I actually follow it…but I recognize that I SHOULD, and my data at least appreciates the thought.

The cloud is just someone else's computer, and they probably don't back it up as often as you'd like. Better keep those important files on a disk locally at two different locations, just in case. 😉

True story, had a call when I worked IT about a desktop not powering on. "Is it plugged in?" "Yes, to a power strip." "Is the power strip switched on?" "Yes." "Is the power strip plugged in?" "Yes." "What is it plugged in to?" "The power strip" ... ... ... Guy thanked me for my time and hung up.

This is what success looks like when you're updating a 15 year old switch to 8 year old firmware. So long, web-UI-shouting-about-needing-Java!

Ok fair warning, the PoE2 game servers are getting absolutely hammered. Even so, logging in is shockingly quick when there’s capacity. Kudos to the team handling their networking stack. I’m sure it’s all hands on deck for this weekend, but they’re going to be just fine.

Path of Exile 2 is hooking me fast, and that’s _with_ the launch weekend server overload. Giving me the pentium-era hack-and-slash vibe in all the right ways. Great, great UI on console too.

We’re starting to bake Tanstack in to our code base as well. Just solid, well made packages.

Wes Bos@wesbos.com

Tanstack Start doing doing server calls a bit different than React Server Components. You can write the client and server logic in the same file and it replaces it with fetch calls when run on the client. No "use client", no errors with client APIs in server components, etc.. watch at 0.5× 😆

“Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on and off again?”

here's a killer tip about how to keep your computer safe .. lol

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation. I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.
