It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

University of Nottingham, right now, is cutting 560 jobs. Do we need to rebrand universities as very large, very clean, land-based oil rigs to get government support?

Leo Hickman@leohickman.carbonbrief.org

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.

Congrats to Danny Kruger for finally finding an audience that is even more racist than he is.

David Wilcock@davidtwilcock.bsky.social

Stony silence for Danny Kruger at a Reform rally as he suggests party could win over UK Muslim voters - as long as they swear 'allegiance to the British state' rather than the 'global Islamic community'

A colleague recently said that a good effect of AI will be the downfall of classical academic publishing, and I wholeheartedly agree. No tear lost for publishers who have for decades enriched itself from content they neither produced nor edited.

So Trump not only disarmed Ukraine by removing the Starlink/Starshield capability with defensive drones (the system only operates in Ukraine), he blinded it too with withholding advanced warnings of Russian missile attacks. How evil, cowardly and craven. Is Kash Patel still in Moscow

As a Ukrainian, this hurts more than I can explain. We never expected the US to fight our war. But we certainly never expected its president to make deals with the aggressor country trying to erase us. Ukraine is fighting for survival. And watching this happen feels like a terrible betrayal.

I will not forget the long list of Tories and right wing media outlets who cheered on Trump’s election in 2024. They were traitors to the interests of the UK then and they are still traitors now.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

Christian Nationalism is just a euphemism for Nazis.

Mrs. Betty Bowers@mrsbettybowers.bsky.social

“Christian” pastors cheering on public executions when the whole Christian faith is based on the abhorrence of the gruesomeness of a public execution shows how far Christian Nationalism is off the rails.

I don’t know if this number is correct. But it is clear that we will only solve the far right problem in the USA and Europe when Putin is dead.

Right wing bot activity on social media - MAGA, Deform, AfD, etc - is down 50% because a lot of it was running out of data centres severely damaged by Ukrainian drone strikes. Odd. Do you think right wing agitation and Russia are connected?

AfD Youth is posting about unification of German people. Belive them, when they say who they are. Not far right, not nazi like but actually exactly like nazis. P.S And yes, they are Putins favorite party in Germany

Germany’s AfD mourns the destruction of the Nordstream pipeline as an attack on ‘Germany’s energy sovereignty’ - with Russian gas. All you need to know about AfD.

Joerg Lau@joerglau.bsky.social

„Gegner der deutschen Energiesouveränität“ haben Nord Stream zerstört, sagt der AfD-Chef. Souveränität gibt es nämlich nur durch Unterwerfung unter russische Dominanz. Noch Fragen?

Let's replace Maths with hymn singing... Said none but a bunch of weirdos and fascists.

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Reform UK's Suella Braverman promises ‘consequences’ if pupils don’t sing Christian hymns. That would be policed. So what happens to atheists, agnostics, non-believers and other religious denominations. Will they be persecuted, imprisoned? Reform UK getting desperate and bizarre.

Replying to @katebyrne.bsky.social

The three far-right parties, Tories, Reform and Restore have about 50% together. All want to leave the ECHR and therefore the Council of Europe and blow up the GFA and TCA. It would be a worse crisis than Brexit

We have a choice between telling future generations that we let Russia kill, rape, torture and plunder in Ukraine for longer than World War 2, or we can change our actions, so we can tell future generations that we sent the Russians back to Russia where they belong.
