We (Chrome) published a big paper about security work that's important to share. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that open source software is getting hammered by AI, and people are looking for bugs: for bounties, for hacking purposes, and to help, more than ever before. blog.google/security/chr...

I will forever have a problem with letting kids pass math classes with a 70%. They will need that 30% in their following years!!!

It is quite easy to convince a kid that they have the wrong understanding of angles (or negatives, or fractions, etc) at an early age. But convincing a teenager that they are wrong is impossible! Especially if they were able to pass so far despite the wrong understanding.

Parents, please, make sure your kids *understand* why they got things wrong as early as possible. Don’t let those wrongs accumulate into larger wrongs!!!

A lot of folks know me for one or two posts, and might not know I've created nine (9!) visual explanations of computer science topics, aimed at practitioners. If you're looking for things to read this Thanksgiving, I think you'll love them. Computer science is a lot of fun, when explained well. ❤️

lucianonooijen.com/blog/why-i-s... this article hit very close to home. used Zed's AI suggestions for a few months but i quickly felt my actual programming brain starting to fog when the free credits ran out—very alarming. now only have edit predictions and inline assist—both very manual actions.

lucianonooijen.comWhy I stopped using AI code editors · Luciano Nooijen In the past I used AI code editors for all of my programming, but I stopped using it and recommend others to consider this as well

I wanted to reach this goal because it is much easier to start with a working product that needs a lot of improvement, but then the complications can be added with the purpose of improving something

I wonder if that “next word” intention that is used to explain LLM’s could be generalized to other “next’s for a certain intention”

Imagine how useful that would be to someone that just moved into that area and is not familiar with weather, parts, lead times to get help... “Inspect your roof now because it’s much hotter during summer, riskier to slippery during fall and too late if it snows”

Can you come up with more intentions, current status and directions that would be useful? How could the training data for these ideas be gathered?

But it could also be used for better interviewing! If you ask the model how fit an applicant is to a job, it could calculate which key vectors they are missing to point in that direction, and then propose a very custom question to explore if they might have it or be willing to learn it

Exploring a different intention, “next maintenance task”. Given your property present and past status as an embedding and a direction in that space, what would be the best next thing to maintain? Clean fridge coils? Rotate mattress? Clean gutters?

I wonder if that “next word” intention that is used to explain LLM’s could be generalized to other “next’s for a certain intention”

For example, “next job”. Represent my current position in the job market as an embedding, my training, abilities and previous positions as my direction in that multidimensional space, and next jobs where such direction points to be the prediction.

Such a model could be misused for lazy interviewing ( the model does not suggest that your directions points towards a job you are applying to, so the interviewer discards you in advance )

@3blue1brown.bsky.social hello. Something I do not understand about prompts in LLM is that the training material is supposed to be exposition-like (like Wikipedia) but this prediction template is shown as a theater play. How did the LLM learn Q&A format out of just answer-like format?
