Car culture dominating society is social murder. Posts are mostly about the US, sometimes focused on parenting. sometimes writing more at https://politicsofcars.beehiiv.com/

Trucker heists are going high tech, faking driver IDs and GPS coordinates. Still physically hitting escort cars though. arstechnica.com/tech-policy/... @adriandaub.bsky.social maybe a coda for your trucker book? Look at all that copper.
It's worse. Saw this post while looking for counterexamples. Not only has #abolition /depolicing not gone further. Also, seemingly no opponents of policing are taking the Win on traffic enforcement and pushing alternative strategies (eg, advocacy for much higher insurance liability $ for victims)
I think it’s telling that the most powerful remnants of Woke 1 or whatever is the one that happens to let drivers of all backgrounds off the hook for reckless driving. Decarceration/ depolicing etc as policy had staying power essentially nowhere else lol
Karma found a fitting punishment (marriage to Stephen Miller) for this person who drives a car despite knowing she's not competent to do so. Let it be a warning to others.
Podcast host and wife of Stephen Miller, Katie Miller, says she leans on her car's self-driving software so much that she's lost the knack for doing it herself.
driving is coded as white in American society. That's eg why the default is for cops not to enforce rules against drivers. These targets of racist propaganda are driving luxury cars, because people of color driving better cars transgresses the audience's racist social mores more than generic wealth
Reagan talked about welfare queens in Cadillacs, Trump talks about Somalian thieves in Mercedes Benzes, because being *real* racist has been a core strategy Republican politicians for a very long time, even if prior to Trump a lot of folks who should have known better enjoyed pretending otherwise.
"[Snapchat] argued the speed filter was no more harmful than a vehicle capable of going faster than 100 mph" yeah, vehicle manufacturers should also be liable to crash victims for design decisions like 100+mph top speeds, giant hoods, etc. And drivers who buy them. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...
This driver was fined $100k for hiding her phone. There should be penalties of this magnitude for any driver who does not immediately surrender their phone after causing a crash. Also employers should be liable for crashes caused by employees sending work messages www.ajc.com/news/2025/10...
@wtyppod.bsky.social shake hands with danger "The NRC performed an inspection at Palisades in July over concerns about safety awareness. It followed an incident last year in which a worker fell into the reactor cavity, ingested some water and was sent off-site for medical attention." future ep?

💯 In addition to the racist power dynamics between drivers and normal people in public generally, it is very hard to imagine Thomas Lake or the AJC publishing a "maybe murdering people is cool and good if it saves a driver a few seconds?" article unless the driver is white specifically
Road rage is a complicated problem, but this particular case would have been simple if doctors were mandatory reporters for dangerous drivers and Jerry Ross lost his license long ago. Instead Ross violently attacked people with his SUV, shows no remorse, and THE CARBRAIN JUDGE STILL LETS HIM DRIVE!
This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

Escalating property tax credits for rich elderly homeowners, especially tied to the original purchase price, subsidize remaining in car dependent mcmansions and jeopardizing the lives of others when they go out, instead of responsibly retiring somewhere they can ride bikes or transit.
“.. Stunning. Pending home sales in the US fell to an all-time low in September.” - Schwab
I have no idea what positive systemic change would be blocked by @sundance.bikesky.social 's posts. Maybe some bikers live. Maybe some people ride more, and help normalize biking in the US. The light is a reminder that drivers fail to follow the law about passing safely, that's a good message!
Driving a truck through a soccer field is not an accident. We already have abolition for traffic violence. The only job the police are doing here is protecting the killer.
Wichita police say a 34-year-old woman from Garden City has been released pending the results of a toxicology report and a vehicle inspection. They also identified the 6-year-old boy and 35-year-old man who were killed Saturday afternoon. (@kmuw.bsky.social)

Jesus Christ: Helen Haines was a key independent pro-climate vote who was also instrumental in creating the Australian National Anti-Corruption Commission

general take on Waymo I want transit not robocabs. I also want Waymo fighting drivers (the actual enemy) because, unlike the bike lobby, they have money to fight Need regulations to protect pedestrians, bike lanes, etc, of course, but those are secondary for them vs drivers clogging roads for free
basically, how large is the difference between this policy proposal and the optimal policy for car owners who plan to keep driving in the city for every trip? I'd expect that delta to be larger.
US DOTs enable murders like this with no fees, physical barriers to entry, or tracking for cars and it's business as usual some vandalism occurs at train stations and the entire US political spectrum supports fares, fare gates, and tracking of people on transit www.wtoc.com/2026/10/15/c...
Transportation reform, car dependency, yada yada Imagine if a non-driver politician was this cogent about how they felt towards drivers (often including right wing opponents) who explicitly use their vehicles to violently threaten or make public space hostile to anyone not occupying a car.
Trust me: whatever you’re doing right now is less important than watching this candidate interview. No spoilers, just trust:
Carbrains see this image and, with a tear in their eye, say "they grow up so fast" since that black SUV reminds them of their own car that they value more than life itself
🧵 1/4 You're not imagining it, cars are getting bigger. In fact, cars are growing approx. 1.2 cm longer and 0.5 cm wider and taller per year. The bigger the car, the bigger the visibility problem for drivers.
@abdulelsayed.bsky.social one quick thing: "writing this between campaign stops", "lack of polish", and the picture evoke drivers texting. Including, especially irresponsibly, many parents with children in those car seats. You weren't texting this, but costs nothing to message better behavior.
Also if we rebuilt our transportation infrastructure to give kids independent mobility through transit, walking, and biking, that would give many parents with multiple kids lots of time back each day. Although I see this mostly as a way to get around how tiny most cash benefit proposals are.
There have been a lot of proposals of giving parents money to increase the birth rate. What would actually help is shortening parents required work hours to 6h/day. Economists might think these are the same, but they very much aren't
A truly horrendous fact pattern. The immediate aftermath of the crash and actions the day after reflect drivers' expectation that they can get away with hit and runs. Not clear if the murderer would have been identified but for his passenger going to the police.
This is horrifying. To be clear, the allegation of murder does not relate to the initial collision, but to what the driver did (or failed to do) immediately afterwards. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Even transit advocates favor fare gates slamming in passengers' faces for indirect benefits to security. Yet there's 40k road deaths a year and opposition to fines in the mail for dangerous criminal activity. Because the US socially constructs violent crime as something poorer non-drivers would do.
Likewise with windshield biased concern about surveillance, for drivers bsky.app/profile/this...
If people stop driving then the cameras will stop taking pictures of their potentially-lethal property. Surveillance in this context is absurdly driver-focused when transit passengers are personally identified, often at both the beginning and end of their trips, and video recorded in between.
Somehow passively tracking the location of this car, used by a violent driver to attack two innocent pedestrians, violates US civil liberties. Yet I'm told actively swinging gates into the faces of US transit passengers until they pay, typically with a card personally linked to them, is "friendly"
BREAKING: A driver fled after striking two elderly pedestrians in Berkeley on Wednesday night, causing major injuries, according to preliminary reports.
Walking and biking are great! But especially for a major city they're compliments, not substitutes, for mass transit. And US cities, even most transportation reform professionals, are still not even aspirational about rebuilding around transit instead of cars bsky.app/profile/this...
All this adds up to very serious transit people behaving something like historic architecture preservationists, wanting to keep what we have and make it look nice, in part through hostile architecture against undesired people. But no aspiration to rebuild US cities away from car dependency.
These chases are atrocious. Not doing these chases would be a lot more viable if we had effective tracking of cars and retractable bollards. Can't assume the murderer going 110 without lights on is going to have a registration to be looked up later. www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2026/10/11/i...
I don't know the regulatory situation in the UK. But in the US there are a lot of gas stations that should be confiscated from their owners, and a lot of drivers buying these nitrous oxide canisters who should lose their licenses. www.mcguirewoods.com/client-resou...
This is also an urbanist issue. GOP has its own climate denying aims. For elected Dems, like EVs, solar tariffs are about helping win over primarily factory owners and less-so workers in rural areas. At the expense of climate, but also their urban voter base paying more for electricity.
29. As a consequence of trade barriers, US solar module buyers are now paying more than 38 US cents per Watt, for generally worse products than free trade markets are getting for 12 US cents per Watt.
