Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

I hope John Riccitiello has a rock in every shoe he puts on for the rest of his life

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

Not just that - Elevation was co-founded by John Riccitiello (alongside U2's Bono!). EA then purchased BioWare from Elevation shortly after EA got a new CEO... John Riccitiello

I made the decision to resign Mass Effect as "a thing from the past" rather than "a thing to hope for in the future" a long time ago, but I can't help but be equal parts devastated and furious at BioWare being shut down. Such a historic studio deserves better, as does everyone who works there.

And yet despite all that BioWare managed to put out banger after banger under hellish conditions until they just couldn't anymore. They produced works of art which will be fondly remembered for decades. They should have been able to produce more.

Not getting to play in the Mass Effect sandbox again makes me a little sad, sure. But I mostly just lament that this is where we're at in games. This wasn't a surprise, just a bummer. Studios with decades of history just wiped because some fuckhead exec can't see how to make an extra buck off them.

EA constantly did everything it could to fuck BioWare and warp their to fit their shit business model. With online passes, day 1 DLC, excessive monetization, you name it. Absolutely saddled their single player RPGs with lots of progenitors to the live service nonsense we deal with today.

As much as xbox sucks ass rn I still kinda want this

I know it's just 64 again but the new Star Fox remake is so fuckin good dude. They turned the space opera shit up 1000% and I love it. That music 🔥🔥🔥

The Americans isn't here so the whole list is bunk

E.J. Fagan@ejfagan.com

Just a bizarre top end of the list. Parks and Rec at #50, 30 Rock as the best comedy of the 21st century at #8? Fleabag at #5? Game of Thrones at #6? Girls at #13? White Lotus at #21? Black Mirror at #26? And I loved Succession, but #4?

Video game fans acting like they're entitled to a good review for the new entry in their favorite franchise makes me want to jump off a cliff. Deeply unserious behavior

I don't think Wolverine looks very good either, but it has turned every gaming post into a pile-on of joyless cretins shitting on a game they'll never play, and it is exhausting!

Like do you enjoy this hobby? Or do you enjoy feeling like a superior little guy online because you have the correct opinion™ about a game?

No way to convey in text what truly makes this moment unforgettable which is the way Pacino absolutely seems on the brink of saying “big” for a moment that feels like forever before instead saying “GREAT.”

I feel like delaying any version of a game the day before launch is not a good look, especially for the folks who bought into the hype and pre-ordered.

GameSpot folks deserve so much better than Fandom's executive leadership. GameSpot could have grown bigger than IGN if it hadn't been constantly tossed between owners who'd lose interest before the ink on the acquisition paperwork dried. A victim of a decade of utter negligence.

This would have been cool if they started it up as soon as they were acquired, like 6 years ago or whatever. This just feels like the flex tape gif of Xbox using big name franchises to cover up the fact that they are constantly hemorrhaging players and money

FWIW I think it's a little strange that "Arkane's Blade is late and over budget" is becoming a lingering news story when the total number of big video games that were *not* late and over budget could be counted on one hand
