I made the decision to resign Mass Effect as "a thing from the past" rather than "a thing to hope for in the future" a long time ago, but I can't help but be equal parts devastated and furious at BioWare being shut down. Such a historic studio deserves better, as does everyone who works there.

EA constantly did everything it could to fuck BioWare and warp their to fit their shit business model. With online passes, day 1 DLC, excessive monetization, you name it. Absolutely saddled their single player RPGs with lots of progenitors to the live service nonsense we deal with today.

And yet despite all that BioWare managed to put out banger after banger under hellish conditions until they just couldn't anymore. They produced works of art which will be fondly remembered for decades. They should have been able to produce more.

Not getting to play in the Mass Effect sandbox again makes me a little sad, sure. But I mostly just lament that this is where we're at in games. This wasn't a surprise, just a bummer. Studios with decades of history just wiped because some fuckhead exec can't see how to make an extra buck off them.
