It's great to hear the new trains on TransPennine Express will deliver independent boarding for more passengers. We need step-free access to the platform and level boarding everywhere so disabled passengers can travel with ease and confidence, instead of having to wait for Passenger Assistance.

The audacity, to put a painting your Nazi father smuggled into Argentina after its theft from a Jewish family *in a real estate photo*

If you object to public-funded housing of homeless people, in the end the objection cannot be the cost, because we pay a premium to be cruel to homeless people. At the bottom of the objection will always sit dehumanizing cruelty and a desire for eradication.

Sending solidarity to @sheffielducu.bsky.social and staff! 4 restructures in 6 years is madness. What's stark is how each uni doing these changes rationalises it by saying they have to do it because others are. So it's a circular argument. Higher ed is cannibalising itself due to bad leadership.

Every time a branch enters a local dispute we are going to do everything we can to amplify the cause and increase pressure. We've launched our dispute videos in the last week. Here is an excellent update from Sheffield UCU.

There’s a species of shark called the ninja lanternshark. It glows in the dark, like all lantern sharks. It’s called ninja because the scientist who discovered it was explaining her discovery to family at Thanksgiving and then her young cousin shouted “ninjas are cool, call it the ninja shark!”

Israel's defence minister revealed that his Government is seeking Donald Trump's support for their plan to forcibly remove Palestinians from Gaza. Forced displacement is a war crime. When will Labour act? End all arms sales. Ban illegal settlement trade. Sanction the Israeli Government.

Please help to build the infrastructure the trans community needs to avoid abuses in everyday life. If the last few years have told us anything, it is that we can't rely on *most people*. If you call yourself a trans ally, chuck us a few £/$/€ to support the only organisation planning for the worst.

If trans people think terfs were immoral people destroying society, are we allowed to just send complaints to their medical teams and get their medical care removed, based on sincerely held beliefs? Would the majority of people be okay with a tiny percentage of the populus doing that??

Genuinely how are you supposed to get on the job ladder? Everything requires prior experience. Getting a job to get you through uni isn't possible because you need a degree. Nothing accepts disabled people or people who can't drive. I know I'm not saying anything new but what are people meant to do?

There is are two humanities buildings at my uni, one of which doesn't have a lift. Guess who once again has lectures scheduled upstairs! 4 years in a row of making a complaint to timetabling and giving them a massive headache #wheelchairuser #highered

True crime has really just broken people’s brains. Millions of people perpetually worried that they’re at acute risk of vanishingly rare crimes, convinced we should curtail civil liberties as a result. A generation who thinks of accusing strangers of heinous crimes as simple entertainment

"Our modern Western understanding of 'religion' views it primarily as an interiorized discourse—that is, concerned with personal beliefs rather than with community or society. We are living in the world that 19th-century Europeans made by…defining 'religion' in terms of their own Protestantism."

People who come to the UK seeking safety are dying under Home Office "care". Yet our Government doesn't even record their deaths. No one's death should go ignored. We need to know their names, track how & why they died, and prevent future tragedies.

The University of Exeter has confirmed that it won’t proceed with compulsory redundancies “at this time”. This means colleagues do not need to complete the pro forma, and there will be no selection process.

👇 This is necessary reading - about the closing of one particular program, but giving insights into the bigger war on education:

"The closure of the Department of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech is one within a nationwide pattern, with Humanities programs, especially in Religious Studies, being particularly susceptible to these administrative maneuvers." www.liberalcurrents.com/religion-hum...
