MAMO IS BACK FOR 2027! Join us at Lincoln College, Oxford (@lincoln.ox.ac.uk) on 22-24 June 2027 for the 6th international Middle Ages in the Modern World conference.
We can't wait to share more details. Watch out for a Call For Papers this summer, and you'll find updates on Bsky and at themamo.org
We know how much exciting activity there is in medievalism studies at the minute and aim to showcase the breadth of work (and play: looking at you, @midagesmodgames.bsky.social) across disciplines. If you have an idea for an event at the next MAMO, get in touch at <themamoconference@gmail.com>.
For those who may be interested ☺️ my slides and painting from my talk 'Gawain is Not a Hero' from the @themamoconf.bsky.social are available to view on the UAL research depository (no transcript as yet since its in peer review but plenty of information) ualresearchonline.arts.ac.uk/id/eprint/24...
Some more images from MAMO conference @themamoconf.bsky.social I’m with esteemed company here, Professor Sarah Salih (KCL), Dr Josh Davies (KCL), and the wonderful Dr Rebecca Menmuir @rebeccamenmuir.bsky.social (Oxford). Such a rich experience for me and lots of new friends made 😊
Wow thank you Laura, it was a pleasure to meet you and hear your feminist reimaginings of Beowulf!
Thank you to all the excellent speakers, listeners and questioners at @themamoconf.bsky.social and the talented team who put it together. A special few days back at @kingscollegelondon.bsky.social
SUCH a thrill to finally meet @mirabelledomine.bsky.social who, with @lukeewalker.bsky.social, is making a film about MARGERY KEMPE! 🥳 It’s going to be extraordinary! ✨😭 #TeamMargery
That's a wrap on MAMO 2025! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, presented, chatted, and made it such an enjoyable conference.
We welcomed nearly 150 across three days, heard over 100 papers, experienced 2 fire alarms, and had countless inspiring conversations on medievalism.
Until MAMO #6!
1/3: Delivering the keynote @themamoconf.bsky.social 2025 has been a wonderful (if daunting) highlight of my research activity, the painting below was made as a response to the invitation, it and the plenary were attempts to understand the women of the poem as more temporally complex figures...
The plenary talk by @michaeledenart.bsky.social at @themamoconf.bsky.social on Gawain & the Green Knight was ✨MAGNIFICENT✨ Michael’s artwork- incl his painting here, Gawain between Two Deaths- is fantastic 👏 Also, a total pleasure to chat to Michael at the conf too! 😘
Such a pleasure to present at @themamoconf.bsky.social with the brilliant @daisyeblack.bsky.social and Sheila Passey. I’m in full flow here discussing my new poem in the voice of Princess Freawaru from Beowulf, inspired by Judith beheading Holofernes (while resisting girlboss feminism!!).
Thursday 26th at MAMO kicks off with MedievalWiki – A Wikipedia citation-a-thon for MAMO 2025!
Led by Fran Allfrey (York), Lucy Hinnie (@yclepit.bsky.social, Leeds and Wikimedia), Lucy Moore (York), and Richard Nevell (@richardnevell.bsky.social, Exeter and Wikimedia). #MAMOmonth
It's the final day of MAMO! Expect it all: a Wikipedia workshop, mystics, Crusades, landscapes, Christianity, theory, pedagogy, scholarship... with a final plenary by @michaeledenart.bsky.social and a closing reception on the Terrace. See you there!
Three fantastic keynote roundtablers, who spoke beautifully on Public Chaucer. The historical Chaucer, literary Chaucer, creative Chaucer all overlapped in interesting ways. Caroline's book with ARC and Mary's with Manchester UP are for sale in the Council Room, along with many other MAMO speakers!
We also had a fantastic Public Chaucers plenary with @euanroger.bsky.social@15thcgossipgirl.bsky.social & Caroline Bergvall at @themamoconf.bsky.social yesterday! (Thanks for the shoutout for @guildmedmak.bsky.social 😘)
A fantastic 2nd day at @themamoconf.bsky.social 🎉 Gorgeous performance of Yde & Olive by @daisyeblack.bsky.social. I really enjoyed @danielsawyer.bsky.social paper- buy his excellent book! Fantastic energising workshop wi @menysnoweballes.bsky.social & I enjoyed repping @guildmedmak.bsky.social
