I love running around the National Mall. It makes me feel like Captain America if he was slow and just a regular guy.

Some people are so universally beloved that I think we shouldn’t be told when they die. Let us figure it out eventually but never receive confirmation. We should always be able to idly speculate that somehow there’s a chance they *could* still be alive

Ted Lasso S4 feels like a reboot of a show that’s been off the air for 10+ years and not 3. They could play with some interesting ideas this season, but the punch lines have been coming at the expense of many of the characters. 📺

I’m jealous of people with jobs that make a difference. Like people who build data centers. They make things worse.

Do you know how in war movies men in uniform will show up at the house of a spouse while it’s raining? I think the modern equivalent is someone asking me at work “you got a sec?”

During my first week at college, UVA brought J. Cole to Grounds to perform at Welcome Week. That was probably my first introduction to his song “Love Yourz.”

This idea is explained nicely by the concept of the hedonic treadmill. As humans, our happiness tends to revert to a fairly consistent baseline level over time. The nice car might make you initially happier, but as you get used to it, you’ll just want something else, something better.

J. Cole’s “Love Yourz” is a reminder of this trap and that we should reconsider what we’re striving for, lest we spend our whole lives running in place.

“Love Yourz” is about the rapper grappling with his newly found fame. J. Cole finds that he now has a lot of the things he wanted for, but he’s realizing they haven’t magically brought him happiness.

Hard work is important to get where you want to go, but leisure is just as important. Rest gives us a chance to recover and get ready to go again.

"Friday I'm in Love" is a pro-leisure anthem. Leisure has long been thought of as something important with even philosophers like Aristotle touting the importance of leisure in order to advance knowledge and happiness.

It comes from an unexpected place. The Cure are thought of as a goth/punk rock band, but Robert Smith, the lead singer, came up with this chord progression and just had to write the song.

While repetitive, the lyrics cleverly address the various days of the week and why they don't hold a candle to Friday. Even the weekends often fly by too quickly, leaving us with feelings like the "Sunday Scaries."

You are up to date.
