Day 1 went *ok*? Idea is basically medieval Cops 'n' Robbers. I lost a lot more time that I would have liked to things like figuring out basic collision code, so I have some catching up to do. Looking like a three day project instead of a two day one, sadly!

I've been in 3D land for the better part of two years now, so weirdly it might actually have been faster to make something in 3D? This felt like a refresher course in making 4 way movement feel nice, smoothing around corners, etc. Hard to not get fixated on that stuff, but it's working now.

one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

Beating the current world record speedrun feels impossible. petaQ turns off the music because it saves 1.3 seconds of processing. He's memorised the chances of ideal enemy combinations if you buy things in the shop in the perfect order. His execution is flawless. And the run has near perfect RNG.

This game was one of the only carts I had on my c64, so I played it to bits when I was a kid. I never got past level 5. Turns out it's a really fun game to speedrun! What a treat to rediscover it after all these years, to go back and finally uncover its mysteries.
