Hi BlueSky!
I wrote a book called "The Mathematicians' Library": It's a book about books & about history.
Every book and all of history is about maths, but where most authors & historians do a good job of hiding that, I've failed to the extent that it even turns up in the *title*.
What a muppet.
I've got some space (and time) for online private maths tuition, so if you know someone who's looking to iron out some mathematical creases do point them my way!
UK, online only.
£50/hour (children up to GCSE/year 11)
£70/hour (adults & A-level)
Drop me a private message to chat about your needs!
If you are (or someone you know is) enthusiastic about #maths and looking for a job in the Southwark area of London, you're in luck: @mathsworld.com is looking for an Enabler to join the team: www.mathsworlduk.com/mathsworld-i...

Today's prompt for #mathober is UNIMODULAR LATTICE, which has a surprisingly straightforward definition and some nice famous examples. I made a zine! PDF: https://katiesteckles.co.uk/mo26
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House was as funny and lovely as I'd hoped it would be, and expanded to fill the big screen rather well, I thought. Yes please!
The next #mathober prompt (see the full list at https://mathober.com) is CROSSED PRISM GRAPH, and these are a fun set of graphs with a nice definition and surprising celebrity member. I made a zine and a GGB! PDF: https://katiesteckles.co.uk/mo25
After a frankly heroic catch-up effort, here's my third #mathober zine of the day, about MULTIPERFECT NUMBERS - including a diagram I came up with but that surely someone else has already used to illustrate this? PDF: https://katiesteckles.co.uk/mo24
Attempting to catch up with #mathober, here's my zine in response to the prompt for day 22, which is POLYLOGARITHM - hard to draw 4D plots but I've found some fun facts about it! PDF: https://katiesteckles.co.uk/mo22
Happy Pythagorean Triple day!!

Last one this century 🧐
Check out the "Pythagorean Party" blog post from last year... I wrote it after 7-24-25.

Lots of events take place in the CMK shopping centre, but it's rare to see someone talking about #Maths: it was a pleasure to run into Karen flying the flag at a #BlackHistoryMonth event in Middleton Hall today!

Picked up a copy of the Mathematicians Library by @teakayb.mathsy.space when I went to Mathsworld this week.
I'm looking forward to being able to read it. (Although I probably won't be able to until Christmas break now!)
I've got some availability coming up and Im looking to fill it! If something here makes it feel like I might meet a need you have, get in touch!

Had a delightful time explaining the joy of writing maths songs at #BCME10
Thank you to the wonderful audience!

Some reflections from a first day of workshops at #BCME10.
Giving consideration to how to adapt tasks to reflect the working memory and inhibitory control factors affecting ADHD learners in the session led by Rita Pescetelli.

End of the First Day at #BCME10
Some really excellent sessions today:
· A thought-provoking session on teaching problem-solving questions and the importance of placing problem-solving at the heart of our lessons, rather than leaving it as an afterthought following fluency and reasoning.

So fortunate to have a big, national maths education conference just a short walk through the park from home. So many fab sessions to choose from, looking forward to an interesting day!

Here's a special-edition #BCME10#ViewFromAHotelWindow. Had a great day, the session with @robeastaway.bsky.social went well (I think), and it was nice to catch up with a few folk, and make some new acquaintances too. It's just a shame I couldn't stay for day 2!
Looking forward to co-presenting with @teakayb.mathsy.space at #BCME10 tomorrow, we're talking about the value of building links between maths and history. There will be at least one quiz question.
I'm en route to Nottingham for #BCME10. I'll be around this evening if anyone's up for some light socialising!
Either way, do say 'hi!' on Friday, and consider coming to mine and @robeastaway.bsky.social's session at 1pm on how history can enrich maths lessons!

I've had my talk submission accepted for this year's @bigmathsjam.bsky.social : 5 minutes of quickfire #MathsInMuseums that I've stumbled upon in the last 12 months.
Who else is going? Who else is speaking? Care to tease your talk?
Another podcast episode, if you're interested in such things: this time it's Museum Buzz with Emily Kotecki: we had a chat at this year's GEM conference at Bletchley Park.

For anyone who needs a reminder:
👍 'liking' is *encouraging*
🔁 Sharing is *helpful*
The former says "this isn't a terrible take"; the latter says "this is worth putting in front of other people"
I've been told by people that I was 'generous' for sharing their ideas with my networks. No: I'm just supportive of ideas that I feel are worthy of support, and 'sharing' (rather than just 'liking') is a tiny-effort way of providing that support.
On the other hand, although I'm following 800+ people and 4k+ people are following me, even the tumbleweed ignores pretty much everything I post. This suggests that I'm following the wrong people; and that the wrong people are following me. I'm not sure how to find the *right* people, though.
Here's today's #mathober zine, which is about DIMENSION INVARIANCE. Or is it actually about homeomorphism? Maybe those two things are homeomorphic (no, they are not). PDF:

Yesterday's TMiP podcast appearance update was prompted by the need to add this second TMiP podcast appearance to my portfolio...
If you like Toms and podcasts, it's been a good couple of months.
I'll catch up eventually.
Intrigued to notice that the recent edition of Mathematics Today has a feature about someone who appears in my book, followed by a feature about someone else who is mentioned in my book, followed by a feature written by someone who wrote my book!
Hello! having retired from teaching 5 yrs ago I have books of maths puzzles and interesting facts, & ones I used for research for my MA dissertation. Do you know anyone who might like them? I can make a list. Happy to give away for donations to @tearfund.bsky.social
Thanks so much.
I'm a bit late updating my website with this, but back in June I wrote an article for the IMA's Mathematics Today magazine's Maths on Holiday special edition.
