He/him. I have an English degree and I think it's neat. 3x Mayor of Halloween City (nonconsecutive terms). In the 99.9th percentile of Shaq listeners on Spotify.

I think Democrats should try impeaching and removing Trump simply because, on the long shot that it's successful, we'd get a great movie about the effort to flip enough Republicans for the votes to convict

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

This is probably more of a translation choice/mistake but Oskar reading Goosebumps nine years before the book was published always takes me out of Let The Right One In lol

Cincinnati finally has the pieces they need to win it all but this team is so fucking sloppy through three games. Penalties all over the o-line in weeks one in two, whatever the fuck was going on with the defense and special teams in week three. Embarrassing performances all around for a good team.

Zac Taylor should have been out the door two seasons ago but if we miss the playoffs because of self-inflicted wounds it's time to yeet him out of the sport

Not saying anything but I genuinely have never heard of this song lmao

Supposedly the most enduring popular song of all time and Rolling Stone has to browbeat you into listening to it? Ella Langley is out here playing plumbers and mechanics. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

Even before Game of Thrones got "bad" it's shocking how many characters are given One Thing and never shut up about it. Petyr Baelish and the only woman he's ever loved, Lord Varys' castration. At a certain point they start to feel like NPCs in a video game.

Denny Carter@dennycarter.bsky.social

The last couple seasons of Game of Thrones were some of the worst TV imaginable. GOT might be a top 20 show. But maybe not.

I love Breaking Bad and just have never really enjoyed Mad Men but even saying that I know it's a better show lmao

Wait I watched the video what is going on with the construction of the sentence "an ai system solved a math problem in 88 hours that human beings had struggled with for almost a hundred years"

I've heard a lot of "my teachers turned the TV on" stories but my experience was similar to this. My teacher told us because she felt we should know, but the school admin explicitly told her to act cool and zip it.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

one unique 9/11 experience i had was that my school decided to pretend it wasn’t happening. teachers were instructed not to discuss it and just proceed with teaching.

Weird experience going to recess five minutes after my teacher said "9/11 just happened" and the lunch ladies were watching it on the cafeteria TVs, panicked when they saw us coming, and jumped to turn the televisions off like nothing bad was happening at all

There's so much to unpack in this, but even if Rodgers lands on the side of "AIPAC bad," his perspective is that he's upset that MAGA isn't a real movement because that's a cause he can believe in

You just know the NFL loves when one of its most prominent players talks about AIPAC and “the uniparty”

I don't like talking about Blockbuster much because I think it's lasting image in our popular culture has more to do with successful marketing than being a good company. There were tons of national video rental franchises but only Blockbuster banned my parents.

Most people are nostalgic for Blockbuster but my hometown also had a Family Video, Hollywood Video, and a local place called Sensation Station. My parents would rotate through the four stores, racking up late fees and waiting until one would clear their accounts. Family Video was especially lenient.

I remember Sensation Station being an impressive operation for a small business. They had a strong brand identity, like a video store you'd see in a movie, but by the mid-2000s, most of their business came from tanning beds by the mid-2010s it was a full-time tanning salon.

A thing I don't see come up a lot in these nostalgia conversations is how many places participated in the video rental economy in the 1990s. Like, you could rent movies at Kroger.

Hollywood Video actually replaced Blockbuster for a short time when it went out of business in the mid-2000s. We celebrated Blockbuster's demise by renting like seventeen movies from Hollywood Video.

One of the reasons my parents were so bad at returning stuff was because they had three kids who all wanted to rent two or three movies at a time and we would just lose track of stuff. Every time we got a new account my dad would be like we're only renting THREE movies at a time but he caved easily.

Family Video had the free kids movies section which was a wild assortment of mainstream stuff like Disney and obscure shit like the bizarre 1996 Sonic the Hedgehog OVA which I rented repeatedly. Since Family Video forgave late fees after like six months, I have the most nostalgia for it.

Probably not the first person to make this point but socially conscious folks didn't pick up "y'all" to be folksy, it's because it's gender neutral

Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.

My brother gave our SNES away to a girl he liked on a whim and years later I got it back at garage sale with a box of games including Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Perfect Dark, Star Fox, and Michael Jordan: Chaos In the Windy City for $25

I got into retro video games in high school and college because it was cheap. I was broke as hell but I was still able to pop into a thrift store or pawn shop and get NES and SNES games for $5. Same with DVDs. The deals I turned down because they weren't cheap enough would make you sick
