thinking about redrawing a shirt design i made almost a decade ago just cuz i still like the concept and know i can do it better today (and also maybe another related design that ultimately got thrown out)

Caitlin is the foremost expert on Freya in the land, so you know when we print one of these designs, its a real event. I know I'll be getting one, you should too!

I've got a shirt up on @theyetee.com!!! TRANCE RAT is available only today, but Freya #ff9 is forever 🐀💙⚔️

I majored in communication and minored in cinema. It was drilled into my head over four years that documentaries are persuasive tools with a point of view and cannot be objective just on the grounds that our perspective is whatever the director points their camera at and *chooses* to show us

The closest you get to an "objective" documentary is something like Baraka that's literally just assorted footage of earth and even then, shots are juxtaposed to create associations and suggestions

Never thought about it this way but feels like another strong argument for why we need to pay executives less. One year's pay for some of these guys would last any of us a lifetime, why bother being good at your job when you have nothing to lose?

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

At a certain point, work isn't work for these people, it's an income producing hobby. That's just so at odds with workers who a) are invested in having income + benefits and b) actually care about their work beyond it being a hobby investment.

The dream of the executive suite is truly to have half a dozen guys at the top being paid billions while a farm of AI servers churn out product for "free" and they can go make money from another passive hobby elsewhere. Watching creative industries being gutted right now is heartbreaking

Yeah man I feel like the John Henry of it all is that a good human programmer will always be more efficient AND accurate. Feels like this should've been obvious the whole time

We went to the Pokemon Fossil Exhibit at the Field Museum yesterday and it was genuinely awesome. Big fan of how its half Pokemon art pieces and half real world fossils for comparison. I'm far from the biggest Pokemon fan and I had a blast. A must see if you're able to see it

Usually pop culture stuff at science museums tends to be very kiddy (makes sense) but this one was still super engaging as an adult, which was a relief. The gift shop was bonkers tho and clearly completely picked over since this summer, lol

As a video game enthusiast who also loves classic men’s formalwear, I can’t begin to tell you how happy it makes me to see Miyamoto rocking the exact same necktie for the past 30+ years.

i love that "open world football game" is one of the dumbest ideas i've ever heard that could actually result in one of the strangest games you've ever seen if it was in the hands of literally anyone but EA

Watched the first episode of Crystal Lake. I'm gonna stick with it but I also don't know what to make of it. It's kinda doing a Breaking Bad... Stranger Things thing? Okay sure, I guess

John-Charles Holmes@sonic9jct.jctholmes.com

Haven't had the energy to start Crystal Lake yet, esp seeing that episodes are an hour long. I will not hesitate to just put on another episode of 90210 of the same length, however

There's stuff here I like already. Linda Cardellini is on my permanent A-List and I like the idea of making a show about the town of Crystal Lake, something the movies never really checked in on much. I love that Ralph is here.

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

I've been looking for this track for years and I literally do not think anyone ever put it anywhere but in this trailer

The only good thing to come out of Street Fighter V was Del The Funky Homosapien and Dan The Automator making this track for the G trailer. Capcom then didn't put the track in the game and there's no way for me to listen to it unless I pull it up on Youtube lol

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

They also shot Sadako in reverse so that when played forward it felt even more otherworldly. She's probably on screen for a few minutes tops and leaves an indelible impression

a lot of the stuff people keep pointing to as being emblematic of an upcoming console crash i've generally seen as sensationalization, but nothing has actually felt more like a real albatross than the threat of ~$2k hardware

Wario64@wario64.bsky.social

'the price of the [Xbox] Helix console has internally been projected to cost consumers between $1,200 and $1,800, unless Microsoft decides to subsidize the cost' -Game Pass planning major overhaul (a la carte) -next-gen handheld by 2027 holidays, console 2028 holidays fortune.com/2026/10/20/t...

im remembering that Microsoft experimented around briefly with leasing plans for their consoles + game pass and idk how consoles hit this price point without gaming leasing plans coming back out again which won't be good for *anybody*

A jobs a job, man. Anything that keeps people employed full time and hones their skills for that dream project once it comes around. Large mid-tier show orders honestly helped to make good shows even better imho

Genius Kojumbo@zippedbinders.bsky.social

In retrospect, "animated series based on live action movies" was a load bearing sub-genre of cartoons. Even if they weren't good, studios greenlighting 52 episode show orders of stuff like this meant a healthier industry.

I was talking about this w some friends the other night when someone was asking why shows like Seven Havens feels rougher than TLA and I pointed out the people who made TLA had like 10+ years of consistent industry experience on other shows. How does anyone get that experience now?

Even those artists today with consistent work aren't going from 26-52 episode studio productions per year, it's like 8 episode contract gigs and then maybe you land another one next year. How is anyone supposed to grow and learn in that system?

Still really enjoying this DLC inbetween other tasks/responsibilities. It's nice little slice of what works in the main game without the 30-40 hours investment to return

John-Charles Holmes@sonic9jct.jctholmes.com

I have had a little time inbetween everything to start up the Yotei DLC and man it is just so nice to be back in this world again. Adore these games

I think a lot about the Internet being a dry boring place because it was more focused around logging on to use it instead of an always on spigot of entertainment and money opportunities you're missing out on
