Not the only reason why I love Liverpool

Would you like to see an 18 minute video of Liam Neeson talking about the history of Northern Ireland's railways whilst sporting a fine array of period costumes? Of course you would.

As it is Skynet Day, it seems as good a time as any to share that data center based LLM Ai is caught in a death spiral which is going largely unreported in the media. In short, major insurers are creating carve outs for Ai, refusing to insure it, causing corporations to abandon its front facing use.

Haven't watched yet, but as it has a new season let's bring over to Bluesky my cast list for Lord of the Rings using the cast of S1-3 of Ted Lasso. Let's start with an easy one: Aragorn. No fucking second breakfasts for any fucking hobbits or any other fucking muppets with this Aragorn.

We have lift off! The first Pufflings are now leaving the Isle of May as birds are now independent. This is a big moment as they’ve never flown and not seen the sea before! Good luck :)

Novel finished at 117k words. It's in Hungarian, it's extremely very sappy, it needs tons of editing and I've no idea if I can mould into a publishable shape (much less find a publisher interested in it), but it's finished. I should feel... proud? Elated? Weirdly, I'm just sad.

My friend Nina, who recently moved to Hungary, tries to help her queer best friend, who currently lives in a very anti-LBGTQ+ country, to Thailand. If you can help, please share or donate! whydonate.com/fundraising/...

No seriously they're stuck in a shit pub being yelled at by Fatboy Slim

Apropos of nothing: Scaffolding by Seamus Heaney

now that's a fucking Space X IPO headline

Sidenote: I'd really appreciate it if you repost this, if only because getting the damn thing to display on Bsky with a decent alt text was something of a labour of love. And also because, obviously, I want everyone in the universe to know this is coming.

Meet Enoki!

"Perhaps prison would have persisted this way forever. Perhaps our granite hearts and iron wills would have never crumbled. Perhaps the prison mentality, that we be cold and heartless, would have endured. Perhaps. But then there were kittens."

You know what we don't talk enough about? Queen & Annie Lennox/David Bowie rehearsing 'Under Pressure' in 1992. So much going on! Everyone's clothes, Bowie with a lit cig throughout, where Annie PROPER GOES FOR IT, George Michael singing along in the background. The amazing vocals. Yes, please!

Since this piece is so well liked I'm using this opportunity to let anyone interested know that I'm still looking for more work! Be it portraits, book covers full illustrations etc. I'm open to anything! #art #artwork #medieval

It's 32°C, I'm sitting in a park by a school. A bunch of kids are running laps in the courtyard. I'm sure they will be OK but I think it's simply cruel to make them run in this weather.

Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...

hey, fellow brits and europeans in this heat wave! If you're on any of these you're more sensitive to the heat. Make sure you drink water, stay in the shade, and avoid over-exertion.

It's that time of year again in this neck of the woods. As a former lifeguard: please read!! It could save a life 💜

I really love R. S. Thomas, he was a great poet

NASA just dropped more than 12,000 photos from the Artemis II mission. It'll take me a few days to go through them all, but so far it's one stunner after another. Link: eol.jsc.nasa.gov/SearchPhotos... Credit: NASA/Artemis II Crew (h/t @jonostrower.com)

similar to when beginning writers only eat the frontopolar cortex of experienced writers scavenged at workshops, to avoid pastiche psychosis

Verify that you’re a rum man.

What the fuck. I this an actual thing? I don't want this to be an actual thing.

Googly eyes might stop seagulls from stealing your lunch. UK researchers stuck googly eyes onto takeout food containers in seagull-infested places and found that they were far less likely to be approached or pecked compared to un-googly-eyed control containers. buff.ly/G5i7JE5 #ShareGoodNewsToo

Fun* fact: The majority of the vast whaling fleets commissioned and operated by the Nazis in the Antarctic were built and operated by Unilever. "Almost drove the Blue Whale to extinction" is a corporate achievement they don't boast about as much as they did back then though. *Not fun.

Today’s featured Wild Sonnet is #154, and is special as it was written in honor of William Shakespeare and his 154 sonnets. And today is Shakespeare’s birthday. This was published in The Wild Sonnets: Volume II (101-200). For all 8 Volumes of The Wild Sonnets: www.wildsonnets.com.

The Hermetic Order of Fabricated Nonsense was founded by a trio of late-19th century freemasons on the unreliable foundations of the Cypher Manuscripts – a collection of piffle about Qabalah, astrology, tarot, geomancy, and alchemy, which was (a) in code, and (b) of rather dubious origins

Magyar on Ukraine 🇭🇺🇺🇦: "Everyone in Hungary knows that Ukraine is a victim of this war and no one should tell them under what conditions they should enter a peace or sign a peace treaty. We cannot tell any country to give up their territory.

Orban concedes defeat. The support of Trump, Vance, Putin, Lavrov, Weidel, Milei, Le Pen, Fico, Babis and many others could not overcome Hungarian anger at a stagnant, corrupt regime www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

Apparently, Orbán just called Magyar to congratulate. Fuck me. It's done. We don't yet know the exact numbers, only 53% of the votes have been counted so far, but it looks like Orbán's out.
