It's normal to take thermal images of your dryer wiring, right? A couple of crimps had gone bad and high impedance and melted wires. I wanted to make sure that wasn't still happening.

My brother and I converted a similar '77 1-ton for kart racing. We stacked two karts in the back and had plenty of room for sundries. Previous owner lived in it. Before that it was a baptist church van. We called it the Hideously Ugly Green Van (HUGVee). Highly recommended vintage.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

If you run any kind of PHP application on your server... it's time to patch. Except... the patch is not here yet. Some info here: jackalsyn.com/posts/php-up... - but disabling upload progress *may* help, it's just not the full fix: session.upload_progress.enabled = Off

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.

Man, I'd love to have a broad array of logged sensors on any appliance that uses significant energy. Computerize all the things! Let me track efficiency! Highlight incipient failure! But whatever *controls* the appliance should be as simple as practical and not require the tracking to function .

You will pry my fully mechanical washer and dryer from my cold, dead hands. But I wouldn't mind having the last 20 years of fine-grained detail on its every operation. That'd kick ass. "Look, the drum accelerometer shows a rise in the motor rpm third harmonic before the drain pump fails!"

One of R.E.M.'s early recording experiences was with an producer who insisted that Bill Berry (drummer) play to a click track to make his drumming more... I guess machine-like. On a song like White Tornado you can hear what a criminal act that was. Bill is having fun here (and getting a workout).

Some very ancient critter was calmed by having the bridge of its nose gently stroked and passed that down through the aeons. I pride myself on having put a Chinese Water Dragon, rats, mice, cats and dogs to a nice relaxed sleep. Wonder if it would work on, like, a spider.

Who’s a good lizard

A budgerigar too! So definitely reptiles, and inherited by mammals. One of the self-calming strategies in DBT is putting a cold cloth in the same spot (or just dipping your face in ice water). Life is marvelous.

Got flu and COVID on Monday, mildly sore arm on Tuesday morning. 💪 Got pneumococcus and second shingles shot on Tuesday (also same arm like a dork) and ended up with a high fever for six hours Tuesday evening and a sore arm for three more days. I will probably not learn from this.

I got both flu and COVID shots on Wednesday and have experienced zero side effects. I usually at least get a very sore arm from the flu shot, so maybe side effects are not so bad this year. YMMV.

I wish I could show this to my stepdad. He always used to joke that he didn't believe in helicopters and "it was all done with mirrors". 😆

One of the countless class actions I've signed onto finally paid out. Thanks to "Katz-Lacabe et al v. Oracle America, Inc." I'm getting $37 from Oracle! That's officially the only semi-positive thing I've ever said (and likely ever will say) about Oracle.

Minnesotans! Are there good options in the Hortman Community Solar Gardens (CSG) program with Xcel? We've had one door-to-door guy show up twice with only an ipad and try the high-pressure FOMO game to get us onboard without letting us go research options. He always "forgets" any pamphlets. 🙄

Devouring "Parable of the Sower" and "Parable of the Talents" in two days is radicalizing me even more than it would have before ICE christofascists spent last year marauding our cities.

I have some of my late step Dad's tools which are likely 1950s or early '60s. The Champion DeArment channel locks (before that was a thing) might actually date to the '30s. Glad to have the connection to him whenever I use them.

Welp, I put down a nonrefundable deposit. Delivery in "2027" sometime. Actually excited. It reminds me of my first car, but it will be my first EV and I intend to drive it forever. Main selling point is simplicity, no always-connected cellular spying, ease of repair.
