I assume people who worry about "ingredients you can't even pronounce!" in food are stupid not because they are ignorant but because they'd do really bad on the pronouncing nonsense words part of a cognitive ability test. U can pronounce words you've never seen it's very easy actually.

They are hiding this from you to make you afraid. These facts do not dismiss or diminish victims of crimes. We have real work to do. But the world is not falling apart because of "street criminals". It's falling apart because of mansion criminals.

The best-kept secret in North Carolina is how sharply violent crime is falling in cities all over the state. From 2024 to 2025, violent crime dropped sharply in the biggest cities in North Carolina. Good news!

Gerrymandering can backfire. It's all about packing and cracking. Packed districts for sure go blue, so it's all down to the primary. That lets us elect strong left-wing reps. Cracked district shave just enough red to push over the edge. A big enough shift in voter sentiment and it all topples.

This is a good response.

NANCY MACE: What is a woman? Have you learned that lesson? WALZ: I'm the governor of Minnesota. I'm not here to be a prop for your obsession.

Myself and the rest of the "two things can be true" crowd bout to go defend a totalitarian theocracy by saying we should not have invaded the county

The pedophile in charge of the federal government is trying to use AI to build autonomous weapons systems and mass surveillance. Have a nice night!

I love how every step of the way they find new ways to justify it. I think in 2015 even a lot of MAGAs would turn if Trump said he would defy SCOTUS. But he inched on and on towards authoritarianism. Now they don't care.

like it's all there the rhythm the word choice also the effect of autistic traits on society at large prior to/independent of autism culture needs to be studied. prolly is but I'm not gonna look it up I just think it's cool.

The American president is more insulated from accountability than a British royal. Our political system provides the elite with immunity. It has to change.

Today is a day where the badness in the world feels so demoralizing. And I know I will feel better if I focus in the small things, and individuals trying to make a difference. But I wish some good things found happen at a big level. Idk.

So if you are around that age you probably don't have to worry. You will probably live another eight or more years. Just remember that things like stress and obesity reduce your expected lifespan.

There is a greater than five percent chance for any given seventy-nine year old man to die before turning eighty. Around six percent the year after, then closer to seven the next two. Fun facts.

"You'll never get Congress to support…" Wtf are you talking about? This isn't 1805 all you need is 1/3 of the Senate to be unwilling to punish you and you can make any law you want by Executive Order. The way the founders intended.

I do not speak out against Capitalism because I do not know what that is. Capitalism is not a thing economists study. It is not a real ideology. It is not a defined economic system.

Are there people who like capitalism that define it by the abuse of power and massive inequaly? I don't know of any. Those people *also* tend to ignore those problems, but they don't ascribe them to capitalism.

So. Um. What the hell? Fuck the Epstein class. Give people labor rights. Give people civil rights. Democracy good. That's what I stand for, basically.

I guess I should accept that critics define capitalism rather consistently as a system where heartless pursuit of wealth goes unpunished. That seems unifying. But that seems like... All societies so far. And not what capitalist enjoyers want?

I think ideas should be defined by their proponents, not opponents. Otherwise ideas like anti-racism could be redefined in time as "anti-white," which is bullshit.

And isn't socialism really specifically state ownership of capital on behalf of the workers? I guess the meaning of words can change over time, but that seems really simple. Not a huge overhaul just a decision.

Is progressive tax really socialism? Or is it just associated with wanting economic democratization and not wanting wealth inequality, which are in turn associated with sometimes nationalizing things, which is socialism?

So what about something like stock buybacks? That's not specifically addressed alleged "capitalist thinkers" like Adam Smith etc. But that doesn't mean it IS capitalist.

And this is not to say that *Marxism* is wrong. Understanding the world in terms of class struggle is vital! But I don't think capitalism is just a place where rich people can do whatever either. There's mercantalist and even communist places where that is true.

Important example: monopolies. That's not capitalism. There's a good case that's explicitly *against* the "capitalist" value of competition. Monopolies is not capitalism and busting them is not socialism.

Or is it just free markets? I mean, I like free markets. A lot. All the not free markets turn to shit. And how free does a market have to be for it to be capitalism? Single payer healthcare I guess it not a free market. Is public option? Is the US with Medicaid/care?

And I know it's all semantic, but that's why it's annoying. I agree with basically everything anti-capitalists say. But like… what are we anti? Are we sure those policy solutions are actually "socialism" is are they just potential good solutions to discreet problems?

Capitalism is evil people usually mean the ability of people and companies to take almost any economic action with relative impunity. Yeah, that's bad. What great capitalist thinker proposed that idea? I don't think there is one...

Except honestly most of them don't mean "a system where you can exploit" they mean "exploiting." That is not an ideology or economic system. That is just greed. We know greed is bad and, yeah, we should stop people from being greedy. Is that what anti-capitalism is?

Usually it just means "Ya know, *hand waves*, this. What we're doing." Which is like yeah I don't like *hand waves* this but what parts of it are capitalism?

See, she could have just said the first part, and people would speculate about interference, and maga would go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the didn't say that But then she said it. They want us to know. They want us to be intimidated.

Kristi Noem: "When it gets to Election Day, we've been proactive to make sure we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this country."

AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

I have become swayed state/local govt handling more things as a good counter to authoritarian overreach Issue has always been when those govts have independence to take people's rights Equality, justice, and collective action issues = federal Else = state Bring it back.

I actually get the case for having a monopoly on some things like power. Kind of hard to keep track of the infrastructure otherwise. Just wish there's was a not-for-profit organization. Accountable to the people. Democratically. Like… the State. Oh well.

Here's what happened this week in North Carolina politics. [February 13, 2026] They killed legal assistance to low-income people in our state and then gambled our money on crypto. Go Eunice! Go Mystique! ⛸️

Hate when people give two-dimensional critiques if other countries' policies like universal healthcare. Every government program in every country is flawed but a detailed analysis can show us meaningful differences. "Wait times!" Yes. Bad. But. Easy to measure better overall outcomes. Duh.

Saw something on Reddit today: instead of saying billionaires or the billionaire class, say "The Epstein Class." More people can get behind taxing, restraining, holding to the same standard if justice the Epsteins of the world. Brilliant.
