i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

For those who could not make it, here is a video of Jean-Christophe Cloutier's lively presentation about his new book BIG AMERICAN WRITER: THE BILINGUAL JACK KEROUAC and his conversation w/ Brent Hayes Edwards. tinyurl.com/yzb5cwvb @columbiaup.bsky.social

tinyurl.comBig American Writer: The Bilingual Jack Kerouac | Jean-Christophe Cloutier & Brent Hayes EdwardsWhat happens when we reconsider Jack Kerouac not simply as an iconic American Beat writer, but as a bilingual author shaped by his French-Canadian heritage? In this recorded conversation, Jean-Christophe Cloutier speaks with Brent Hayes Edwards about Big American Writer: The Bilingual Jack Kerouac, a groundbreaking study that explores the formative role of Kerouac’s French-language upbringing, his unpublished French manuscripts, and his practice of self-translation. Born Jean-Louis Kérouac to French-Canadian immigrant parents, Kerouac grew up speaking French in Lowell, Massachusetts. Drawing on extensive archival research, Cloutier reveals how Kerouac’s bilingualism shaped his literary methods and challenges established understandings of his place in North American and world literature. The conversation offers new perspectives on language, identity, translation, and the often-overlooked French-speaking roots of one of America's most celebrated writers. Jean-Christophe Cloutier is Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of Big American Writer: The Bilingual Jack Kerouac. Brent Hayes Edwards is the Peng Family Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University and Associate Director of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society. This event was co-sponsored by Maison Française and the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University. Maison Française, Columbia University, October 14, 2026. The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

We're only three weeks out from November 11, which means we're only three weeks out from my third annual rewatch of STATION ELEVEN. It's become one of my favorite yearly traditions, and I can't wait to cry and feel joy and cry and feel hope and cry.

(Public WiFi is not nearly as dangerous as people say it is, precisely because we have moved the vast majority of the web to TLS-encrypted connections, but this scenario is precisely the scenario which invalidates that protection and thus the exception to that rule.)

This is why I think relying on the 'bubble' to burst is a fantasy. So-called "AI" is a globalised mass surveillance system wanted by authoritarian (read: all) governments worldwide. Like fossil fuels, it will be propped up at taxpayer expense for the benefit of the ruling elite.

I called support & they were confused & said the rabbits are immortal? I look PRETTY stupid right now, I shoulda known Tesla would think of everything

My god. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do.

PROTEST SONGS #232: 1966 Sunset Strip curfew The last song about the Sunset Strip riot is the most tangential, Joni Mitchell's "California", from 1971's Blue. She sings about ending her European travels and coming back to a US embroiled in the Vietnam war and other unrest.

When the real society of the spectacle turns and shouts back at Guy Debord, all Jack Nicholson style, 'You want spectacle, I'll show you spectacle!' Public crucifixions: just another day in the US that the apocalypytic evangelicals built. There will be, there must be, blood.

They are pushing and pushing for their chatbot toys to have human rights and it's not because they are afraid their chatbot toys are being hurt. It's because they want to buy, sell and control things that are legally people, and to defend their mechanical capital using laws meant to defend people.

Yup. The entire 16 months I’ve been on the ICE flight/TCR beat, I’ve encouraged other journos to join me, bc there are more stories here than I could possibly tell on my own. Many indy journos have. But for MSM reporters, too often they seem content to just repeat what’s already been reported.

I am increasingly convinced that so many people have built their entire careers on plagiarism, and they do not know what real journalism is.

I keep thinking tonight will be the first time I’ve seen Phish two nights in a row, but I was at the Clifford Ball so that’s not quite true

In 2026, you dont even have to really ask if the show was good.... you have to ask HOW good it was. That show was pretty much perfect. I dont know what more anyone can ask of Phish, any era. This is some of the best live music ever played.

shutting down frat houses won't end rape culture, but it will disorganize a lot of rapists, and i think that's probably worth doing if only to destabilize what is apparently an ecology of organizations that functionally exist to rape women per the whole "purpose of a system is what it does" insight.

This whole John Brown thing is genuinely weird, because a few years back on the bird site I had a policy to always follow John Brown profile pics, and with maybe one exception in two to three dozen they were excellent posters.
