Some thoughts on the public apologies issued by some Catholic bishops after last week's Oval Office photo. I expect I will be writing more on Substack and less in the usual places, so please consider subscribing and sharing. millies.substack.com/p/two-words
Easy to laugh at Rogers. And go ahead. But alsoβthis is what happens when a party unquestioningly embraces a moron simply because his stupidity gets votes. Eventually the bill comes due while we all suffer. And I say again. Democracy works just fine. This all is a failure of leadership.
WELKER: Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda? MIKE ROGERS: Um, I'm apologizing. I'm having some difficultly in my earpiece. But is a vote for you? I'm not sure. I'll tell you what a vote for me is. It's a great day for the state of Michigan
A costly consequence of seeing elections as epic climactic battles is the tendency to act as though winning means history stopped and there will never be another election. Good politics is like selling cars the right wayβnot rob everyone blind, & leave town. Sell a dozen cars to someone over 30yrs.
To say the leastβ Not a good look, @usccbofficial.bsky.social

π§΅π§΅π§΅ I was going to write a simple sentence about the madness of the moment, but I got distracted by the U.S. presidentβs complaint that he was screwed out of the Nobel Peace Prize after bombing multiple countries, and then he bolstered his case with a plan to execute a guy in a wheelchair and ...

Endorse. Impeaching Trump just gets you Vance. Force them to defend Hegseth, Mullin, Patel, Bessent, etc. Impeach around the rotten heart of the Administration. It's not even about removal. It is about using sunshine to cleanse and put them on a back foot for 2yrs.
"The loss of a supine R majority & the prospect of any accountability is quite likely to push Trump to abuse power even further." Ds β impeach *everyone except Trump* first. His preference is to play the victim. Deny him that oxygen...for now. Make him defend his guilty enablers... π t2m.co/SNMz86a

"Every Chicagoan is diminished in some way with Mike Ditka not here anymore." Lemme reframe this, Rickβ"Mike Ditka, dead at 86, still a jerk." 'Da Coach' Mike Ditka embodied Chicago, the city he adopted - Chicago Sun-Times share.google/6ZJbjTFq8LWR...
I know Scott Singer and I'm proud to know him. He's a good, honest person who was disgusted by Trump from the beginning. You'll find my book Good Intentions is dedicated to him and his wife Mary Ruth. The book arose from conversations with them, their bafflement at fellow Catholics for Trump.
Worth watching: South Carolina Dems are starting to roll out ads featuring GOPers endorsing Dem Annie Andrews. On our pod, Jalisa Washington-Price, who runs a PAC, says a $2 million ad buy is set to feature a former GOP lawmaker from a deep red county: newrepublic.com/article/2163...

We had a ball last night at the Commonweal Benefit Dinner, where we honored Rev. John Jenkins, President Emeritus of @notredame.bsky.social, with our Centennial Award. It was wonderful to see so many friends old and new!
Reminder, Trump had gutted CDC and NIH surveillance and response before COVID, and those agencies are in worse shape since DOGE. You really do need competent people in government, and they need to be left alone to do their work. www.the-sun.com/news/1710342...
