I have ADHD and executive function dysregulation, and my kid's teacher has asked me on three separate occasions to give examples about what makes my kid special. Once with advance warning, twice on the fly...in front of my kid and other kids. I don't even hesitate.

I would appreciate it if reality would stop catching up to the novel I've been working on the last three years. I'm revising and polishing and I'd really rather it didn't come off as been-there-done-that when I submit it.

A recent securities filing spotlighted what triggered Mark Zuckerberg’s months-long power battle with board directors at Meta — a fight that sparked not-so-veiled threats from Zuckerberg and led board members to contemplate quitting.

I grew up only ever hearing 70s and 80s popular music through shitty radios, so listening to it with a good system is kinda wild. Those producers were going so hard! Is anyone even trying that hard these days?

You can see some very kind, talented people talk. And then also I say "um" about 5,000 times. But if you're interest in writing #scifi #fantasy novels, this is an amazing opportunity

This feels like a #weirdcar #radwood catch: Corolla FX16 GT-S, a California-built hatchback with what looks to be the original plates.

I need someone to follow me around with a big stick to bop me on the head whenever I decide it's worth my energy to argue with strangers on the internet.

Lol, honored to have had my argument entirely misrepresented by whoever TF this guy is because the bootlickers can only convincingly argue against straw men.

This is what modern capitalism has really done for us. All labor exists solely for the enrichment of the owner class instead of the enrichment of your community and the people you see every day. It all feels meaningless because its benefits exist only for people far away from our lived reality

The only jobs that cannot be divorced from community benefit are the most brutally economically punishing. Teachers, public defenders, community organizers. The system punishes them for producing nothing that creates shareholder value.

And your options are either to embrace the sociopathy of striving to join the exploitative class, or laboring under it and internalizing the dissonance of "an honest days work" never providing an honest day's benefits to you or anyone you know and love

Commerce occurs between two people on opposing sides of the shareholder equation, and both fundamentally understand they have no investment in each other beyond generating profit for an invisible third party. The interactions are all poisoned.

And don't get me started on office jobs. On paper pushing, accounting, corporate law, marketing, programming. The higher up the food chain you work, the more explicitly you understand what the real value of your labor is, and who it goes to.

Restaurants and grocery stores do not exist to feed and nourish the community, but to enrich shareholders and private equity. Clothing makers and sellers do not exist to clothe people. Furniture makers, home builders, none of it exists for a purpose beyond profit.

We've been genetically engineering dogs for like 10,000 years. This is even more embarrassing than the time that one tech bro rediscovered the idea of "the train."

I'm sorry, I don't know who Ezra Klein is. I'm very much looking forward to his 15 seconds of infamy being over, because if this lasts much longer there's a serious chance I might learn something about him.

And I know people are saying, "wokeness didn't kill Bioware," but I also keep thinking about the take that's basically like, the first thing Kushner kills is the studio that did gay stuff that rules.

Will K@specwill.bsky.social

I know it's not the worst thing he's done, but Kushner took a horny, science fiction, immersive sim, Bioware RPG away from you.

We really need to teach kids how far apart a million and a billion are. A million seconds is 11.5 days. A billion seconds is like 31 YEARS. Now think how much bigger the gap is between 5 million and 5 billion. And all that wealth was taken from your pocket. Anyway, fuck transphobes, fuck Rowling.

God damn, this party is necrotizing from its consultant class. The industry of Democratic polling, fundraising, and strategy is an absolute cance that consistently works to stifle any reform to protect its own revenue stream.

Adam Bonica@adambonica.bsky.social

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

No creative company should be publicly traded. The model makes no sense. You gamble on projects, and hits fund failures. Big hits fund you for years, maybe. But the idea you can eke out consistently growing quarterly profits is a joke, unless you're exploiting your audience (loot boxes)

The other problem with metafiction, while I'm ranting at clouds, is that it's often a vessel for authorial catharsis. Motherfucker, I get no joy from watching you get your rocks off because you got to run out from behind the curtain and go "it's all artifice! Seeeeeee?"

That's a coward's choice. If I'm gonna watch an artist get off, I want them to be making an utterly insane choice that their creation and audience has to fucking live with.

I just skeeted anout metafiction, but: Digger is so clearly a product of Brecht 101, but beyond the cultural collapse of metafiction as disruptive, it requires an incredibly simplistic view of your audience to think that simply revealing the fiction will catalyze anything.

largest rodent@capybaroness.bsky.social

this, to me, is Digger's fatal flaw--the central conceit only makes sense if the play is actually good, but the mainstream success of good art is not something AGI can conceptualize

Important arty guy missed that metafiction has become another type of catharsis. Have the guts to stay in your story if you're going to push your audience.

I honestly think that for all the doomerism, we're actually radically underestimating how much AI is rotting people's brains.

shauna@goldengateblond.bsky.social

is one of those situations “DAMMIT i’m in a michael bay movie again”

I think metafiction has run its course as disruptive expression. Look at where culture has arrived with Deadpool. At best, metafiction has been reduced to a catharsis of smugness.

THE DEVILS beat DIGGER and THE SOCIAL RECKONING at the box office this weekend.

6 year old and I just beat TMNT: Splintered Fate. An okay Hades knock-off, but also now one of the most important games of my life.

If you're on Facebook, Insta, or Twitter...why? Seriously? Exchange numbers with the two friends who still use those. Set up mailing lists for your business. Zuckerberg and Musk are dismantling your democracy and undoing your rights, and every time you log in you support them.

The key difference between Elizabeth Holmes and Elon Musk is that Holmes cost many in the ruling class a lot of money and Musk is making many in the ruling class a lot of money.

Katie牛🏳️‍⚧️@kevincow.bsky.social

I was gonna say "how is it not illegal to promote your product with blatant lies like this" But then I remembered I just saw You Can See Everything, and like It very much is illegal So why is he not in jail like Holmes for his far more egregious and plentiful lies

This is a fascinating liability dodge. If he can get his cars labeled as "sentient," how can Tesla be sued when they kill someone? I mean, beyond the fact this is bullshit so thick and deep it could smother the fucking sun. But so far that hasn't stopped him.

The word "attorney" is Norman; the word "lawyer" is Anglo-Saxon. There were courts of law and equity and ALL OF IT WAS A FUCKING MESS. Everyone who inherited this tradition--whether it be England, Canada, Australia, the US, or any other poor fools--has sorted it out in slightly different ways.

Let's put this one on the Oh, Wow, What a Shocking and Unexpected Surprise shelf next to "cigarette companies knew nicotine was a addictive" and "oil companies knew about global warming"

The fake car actually being a signal to investors that Space X is gonna buy Tesla and shore up Tesla's value with all that sweet government money is really the only take that matters. The flying car will never actually be built, but that's not even a little bit the point.

Sub in Darkman for Shadow and I'm on board.

Jeez, you mean compressed gas and a big fan *didn't* keep ~4,000 pounds of battery, motor, and assorted other real-car bits in the air? I'm shocked. Shocked!

Every outlet is going to cover the remote-control space frame rig Tesla showed as if it were a real car with all the shit inside that a real car needs. Will they ask things like, are the thrusters geofenced? How will you recharge them? What happens if you turn on the fan on a public road?

At absolute best, this thing is a rolling pile of broken laws. It's institutionalized stupidity. It's headline-grabbing distraction bait, misinformation flooding the zone, and snakeoil liniment to rub on the wounds of any investor who's noticed how the Cybertruck sold.

Can't have all the headlines about how Musk is single-handedly funding GOP campaigns across the country to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars while simultaneously cutting off starlink for Ukraine and doing whatever the hell else shady shit.

I hope that one of the things humanity takes away from the AI debacle is that human life and achievement are about the process. That old chestnut about the journey is an iconic cliche for a reason.
