I’m so over the whole electoral scene at this point, but god damn if it isn’t nice to see some eloquent rhetoric that isn’t just strawmans, gotchas, and whataboutism. #THECONSTITUTIONTOMMY

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

I think I'm going to turn my Bluesky account into a bot that just reshares this bot's posts.

Anarchism’s principal target is the authoritarian State (capitalist or socialist); its principal moral-practical theme is cooperation (solidarity, mutual aid).

Holy shit I'm tired of companies shipping shitty "features" just so they can squeeze money out of me. I can't *manually* deploy something on @vercel.com if the commit was authored by someone who doesn't have an account on the project team?

Blocking random external contributions make sense for security, but I'm literally trying to manually deploy via my own account on the dashboard. Time to trade "convenience" for values and switch to something like May First. Anyone have any recommendations for values-aligned, or #coop web services?

Question: How does one do social media, when one likes their ideas and doesn’t really give a shit what other people think. But also, balanced against the fact that one generally creates things for the world to consume and enjoy, and this is how people share stuff nowadays.

Eh fuck it, I should just go patronize a toy shop and light them up on Twitter so I can feel validated.

Less crass self-promotion, more “hey here’s a thing, feel free to engage, use, and give feedback.” I keep running into this baseline assumption that everyone seems to keep that any attempt to do a thing these days is just some hustle culture, get-up-and-grind bullshit.

Projecting things out, it’s hard to imagine a future where #opensource software *doesn’t* distill down to a question of whose tokens are being burned, and to what end. Which then leads me to think a #coop model makes the most sense for distributing the cost and decisions around what to build.

This is actually hell, right?

I love it when I’m underwhelmed with a book but too far in to stop and then it just ends unexpectedly because half of it is footnotes.

Issue #900 on Prose! Was definitely not expecting to work on this thing as much as I did, but it's been a blast. I've got some nice features in the hopper! 1. Syncing commenting across desktop, web, and *local* HTML 2. Publish to AtProto (soon!) 3. Full web exp with an (optional) at-cost paid tier

I can’t remember the last time I was this psyched for a browser version bump. It’s pretty slick!

Finally got around to this, so good! So fascinating how the actual devs on the ground at Twitter were well-intentioned and grappling with some of the fundamental dynamics of profit-driven economics. Love @blaine.bsky.social's reframe of decentralized tech to cooperation and collaboration.

Twitter could have been built very differently. @blaine.bsky.social, one of the earliest architects of Twitter, built a version inside the company that worked like Mastodon or @bsky.app today. Even their lead investor backed it. So what happened? Listen to the full story, ep out now. Link below.

Sometimes, I like to think about how weird it must be, to be a pet dog. You have zero context or understanding of why things are the way they are, it’s like being abducted by aliens as a baby human and raised on some strange world that just makes no sense to your brain.

And I’m pretty sure they just think we’re weird big dogs too. Must be weird, is all. Cats, on the other hand, I suspect, don’t give a shit.

Anyway this is a literal shower thought, brought to you by my dog walking in on me taking a shower and giving me this “oh shit, sorry didn’t see you there” look and amscraying outta there.

But we’re all mammals (dogs and us) so, we’ve got some stuff in common like playing and whatnot, but also you have all these dog instincts that just make no sense in the human world, and instead we’re like “here chew this fake lamb chop toy instead.”

Here's something pithy: I just opened a junk drawer and the smell transported me back to playing Magic the Gathering in middle school. I think it was the crayons what did it.

Can I complain about "micro-blogging" or did the world move on from that. Half the time I try to say something on here, I'm like "how do I fit this into 300 words." And it doesn't fit, and then I use the threads thing, which like, why even restrict it in the first place. Sure, maybe it's so people

Big ups to @zen-browser.app for being Gecko and not Chromium-based (and also nice to use).

Periodic reminder that Chrome is bad software. It's a personal data collector cosplaying as a web browser. Use other browsers, my personal recommendations are Safari (if you're on a Mac) and Vivaldi (works anywhere). Orion is worth a look too (no Windows version yet).

Another banger from Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act, re: what gets in the way of creation: “Thoughts and habits not conducive to the work: Believing you’re not good enough. Feeling you don’t have the energy it takes. Mistaking adopted rules for absolute truths. Not wanting to do the work (laziness).”

“Romanticizing negative behaviors or addictions. Believing a certain mood or state is necessary to do your best work. Prioritizing other activities and responsibilities over your commitment to making art. Distractibility and procrastination. Impatience.”

And last but not least: “Thinking anything that’s out of your control is in your way.” A friendly reminder that little stands between you and doing that thing you want to do.
