Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

NGC 7380: The Wizard Nebula Still working through some of the data from Starfest earlier this year! Have a ways to go with the camera settings and the processing, but the progress is steady (and most importantly, fun!) 33 x 300s using a dual narrowband filter #astrophotography

You Can See Everything was phenomenal and, among other things, exposure therapy for those of us chronically uncomfortable with long periods of eye contact

absolutely insane that Detroit: Become Human started development in like 2012 we're not too far from this tech keynote now

one of my favourite things about atproto & the Atmosphere is this thematic push to 'make it your own' @blackskyweb.xyz is doing it with Acorn, Bluesky wants to do it with Spaces, and now @eurosky.social too we'll have a million different pockets of the web, all compatible with each other (fun!)

Robin Berjon@robin.berjon.com

If you could want to make your own social app, you'll want mu Studio. Our vision isn't to build a massive single social app, but rather to bring media pluralism to social. And so we should have apps for all tastes that also work together. Some are coming, one could be yours!

shortlist of good stuff the @bsky.app team shipped this year (with probably only ~20 engineers?) while keeping the lights on - group DMs - draft posts - in-app post translations - new gif picker - @standard.site rich embeds - better trending topics - @attie.ai (some might sigh but genuinely useful)

- 10 minute video uploads - filters in search + starter pack searching - muting reposts (❤️) - performance (at least on android) has been so much smoother this + a bunch of less notable things like: - thread numbering - photo carousel + a better photo viewer - bot labels

for atproto: - OAuth granular permissions - network replay support through jetstream v2 - goat cli (PDS management, debugging, PDS account migrations) - private account & communities support through spaces (alpha) - account management in the PDS UI - new atproto.com site & docs - new typescript sdk

another feed to add to the list of Discover alts! genuinely surprised at how good the posts it surfaced were out of the box experience may vary, I am a chronic post liker (bluesky's drilled the feedback loop into me more than any other platform so far)

tons of excitement for this behind the scenes talking to folks, the energy around this feels like a breakthrough on the same level as 3.5 sonnet everyone's looking for a way to fit this into their product/workflow

Message from our CEO: After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev

love to see @gandersocial.ca assuming the title of the first associate member of the open web in Europe

Dividing up AI users in 3 categories: Wizard: approaches AI academically & with appropriate guards & wards. Treats it like a tool. Warlock: Makes a pact for power with an alien entity without considering the costs. Is corrupted by the whispers. Cleric: worships their new machine god. Is insane.

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

This is warlockphobic. Shameful.

god that's clean best thing about Apple getting into foldables is that more devs will finally get their hands on one and maybe decide to whip up a tablet mode for their apps

Tom Warren@tomwarren.co.uk

looking at the iPhone Duo fold animation makes me wish that Windows 11 wouldn't re-arrange all my apps on my multiple monitors every time I resume from sleep 🥲

The Pelican Nebula (IC 5070) Still working through all the data from @nyaastarfest.bsky.social this year but really liking how everything's turned out so far! Captured using 40 stacked 5 minute exposures under Bortle 4 skies using a dual narrowband filter #astrophotography

bluesky needs some sort of atproto-powered plugin system, registered implementations & views of different PDS records made by devs in the community the @standard.site integration was the first step towards this, but anyone should be able to build these integrations

This looks sick, I haven't seen an Aurora Borealis yet. Highlight for me was to be able to see a pinkish tint in the sky when I used my phone to take long-exposure shots of the sky here. Also ironic to have those posts next to each other haha. Over here in Berlin each night is just... black. 😭

ontario when there's something cool to see in the sky:

Winnipeg Free Press@winnipegfreepress.com

TORONTO – A partial solar eclipse was visible across the Maritimes, Ontario, Quebec and other parts of Canada on Wednesday as the annual Perseid meteor shower also reaches its peak this week.

bluesky with a 10:16 aspect ratio is a TREAT, feels like your own little walkie talkie to the web on the outer screen of the galaxy fold 8:

IC 1848: The Soul Nebula Captured last weekend under Bortle 3 skies with a dual narrowband filter and 30 × 300-second stacked exposures! #astrophotography

letting claude ssh into your infrastructure feels so good when you don't have some nerd in your ear telling you it's a bad idea

excited to see the launch of @gandersocial.ca! yet another example of @atproto.com being the go-to web foundation for social platforms and startups

Gander Social@gandersocial.ca

We’d ask you to sign up for Gander. But honestly, we’d rather you didn’t. It’s Canada Day. Put away your phone. Talk to your friends. Get some fresh air. Touch grass if you can. It's what we'll be doing. Sign up for Gander tomorrow. It’ll still be here when you get back.

the app is still rough around the edges; the UI needs work, feeds are buried under too many menus and taps, you can't migrate accounts or interact outside the Gander community, and the main algorithm leaves a lot to be desired that being said, this is only the start, and a very strong one at that!

seeing the Fold 8 has only made me realize just how much we need a physical keyboard on the outer screen of foldables this is the final form of foldable phones, it just makes sense

The next phone I must buy is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 white version.
