The overton window has shifted so far to the fucking right. It’s absolutely WILD the things that get labeled as radical. Basically anything that puts people over profits gets labeled radical, and a lot of the positions used to be pretty mainstream.

How do you persuade people to vote for "I'm going to steal from you and do nothing to solve your real problems... In some cases I'll make them worse."? If that's the honest pitch, you're absolutely going to have to lie in order to win.

How about that? China has a nationally coordinated strategy for building out AI infrastructure to optimize resources. Meanwhile in the US under President Superintelligence, it's "build, baby, build." Guess which country will win the race, with fewer data centers? sa.net/blog/what-is...

The United States is the world's largest exporter of diesel. There is no shortage of diesel in The US since Trump continues to allow its export. There is only the global price/market place. Trump buying Russian diesel does not increase supply and it will not make anything cheaper for anyone.

If comparing Kalshi with Wall St. is an effective tactic to claim that it's some kind of legit market & not just a slightly new form of gambling, then we need to confront the reality that Wall St financial markets are essentially games in a big, fat casino

It feels like the US government has been asleep for 20 years regarding meaningful tech regulation. Social media, crypto, networked surveillance, AI, prediction markets...we're just letting this shit happen until consequences bite society in the ass globalextremism.org/post/crypto-...

Self-regulating capitalism & trickle-down economics are huge fantasies that hold sway over US politics. What's so frustrating about these ideas is that anyone with access to daily news can see that they're fictions, not based in reality. A deep dive into history isn't necessary to grasp the reality

It's difficult to pick apart fears about AI & data centers that are intrinsic to the technologies vs. those that are connected to the fact that giant, fateful decisions about these things are being made by a small handful of insular brain-cooked oligarch narcissists.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

The “tax the rich and they’ll all leave” crowd might want to take a seat. Tax the rich opponents keep that narrative going even though data shows it’s false. NY raised taxes on the wealthy in 2021. We were told the millionaires would flee. 2021: 90,579 2022: 86,211 2023: 86,710 2024: 99,404 RECORD

At this point everyone knows crypto is a scam. Nobody in crypto is innocent. All players in crypto are looking to scam someone else. If you're in crypto and you get wallet drained or rug-pulled, you had it coming. Seriously.

I don't think it's "blasphemous" to observe that 9/11 worked. If the goal was to bring out inherent contradictions & fault lines in US democracy, hastening internal division & long-term political gridlock...Check. To make us squander resources & reputation in endless wars...Check. And so much more

The shock jock mode of politics has not only become the dominant form within the GOP, it's also one of the most reliable ladders of success available to the conspicuously untalented. A moron's grift so widespread it has swallowed American political discourse whole.

"Monthly jobs reports are now barely worth the paper they’re printed on, because the Bureau of Labor Statistics has so little experience dealing with a [suddenly depleted] labor market...In other words, much of what the BLS is now trying to do relies on pure guesswork." (Robert Reich)

Leftist YIMBYs want to tear up zoning, environmental & preservation regulations & leave urban planning to the discretion of developers & the magic of the free market. They are drinking some crazy kool-ade if they believe this will solve homelessness. I get the sense that they're mostly into this...

dangerous idea because it punishes supposedly wealthy homeowners invested in the concept of stable, low-density, legacy neighborhoods. It's like the generation priced out of buying such homes found a way to stick it to homeowners & call them reactionary racist NIMBYs for regulating development

It seems more and more every day that the Trump administration is taking their scripts right out of the WWE. Nothing makes sense. Nobody ever really does anything, it’s all fake. Everyone is a different character hired to play very specific good or bad guy roles.

Returning to this post from last spring, and it feels more obvious than ever. Just a series of 30-second ads of rapid-fire headlines about scandals in one Cabinet department with the tag line at the end: Had Enough? Vote Democratic

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

In the 1946 midterm elections, the GOP used public anger over meat shortages to win back both houses of Congress for the first time in over a decade. Their message for those midterms was a simple one that Democrats should borrow: “Had enough?”

I think the general consensus of people around the world is that Americans can get fooled by a con man once, but to return him to power a 2nd time after having seen his corruption, incompetence, ignorance, & buffoonery, the problem isn’t just Trump it’s the American people.

One of the most annoying Bluesky leftist tropes is "prolonged national strike" in USA. Reality: class solidarity is non-existent (skip work, your job is up for grabs), only 10% unionized, 2 wks sick leave & 1 wk vacation (if lucky), landlords evict for missing 1 rent payment, no med care w/o a job.

Every subsequent U.S. president who tries to do a modicum of good via foreign policy or trade is going to be sitting across from someone thinking yeah sure, okay, but what about the next guy. Absent political reforms, tribunals and truth and reconciliation, that credibility is gone forever.

It's not the taco trucks that Brick&Morter restaurants are competing with unfairly-- it's the street vendors. These vendors don't pay min wage, payroll tax, rent, utilities, no running water, no refrigeration, no health/fire inspection, no workers comp, liability insurance... Support Brick&Mortar

The sloppy thinking & half-assed misreading of history by the allegedly "originalist" Roberts & his cohorts would be laughable if it wasn't so consequential. When all these "unitary executive" cases are eventually re-litigated by a smarter Supreme Court, they'll be swatted down hastily.
