It's the week of Absolute Batman #25, so let's flash back to earlier this year when @ssnyder1835.bsky.social joined me on Off Panel for a sprawling conversation about Absolute Batman, the larger Absolute line, and what's been driving the past few years at DC Comics.

This week brings Absolute Batman #25, and if you want to learn how its artist Nick Dragotta got to this moment, read my profile of Dragotta exploring how he went from a creator figuring things out in his 20s to maybe the biggest artist in comics at age 50. It's open to non-subscribers.

This week on Off Panel, artist @sanfordgreene.bsky.social joins the show to talk about this week's DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs. the World, his New York Comic Con experience, the changing world for comic artists, the original art market's impact on his work, and a whole lot more.

I wrote about the things I liked or didn't like from the week of comics, including the return of the New Gods, an unconventional path for Dungeon Crawler Carl, Jake Tapper...cartoonist?, Hickman the Studios man, Stephen Byrne delivering, and more.

In this month's Mailbag Q&A, I answered questions about: the power of adding a comic to your pull list, Alaska as a place for comics, genres that don't always work for me, big comic moments, standout miniseries, convention tips, dense release weeks, and a whole lot more.

In a smaller week for yours truly, I highlighted my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics in The Pull, with it led by Die: Loaded #10 as my Comic of the Week.

This week on Off Panel, writer G. Willow Wilson (@gwillow.me) visits the podcast to talk about her comic book journey, her work on Poison Ivy and Black Cat, the path to Kamala Khan, the story behind Batman: Bad Seeds, and more. Note: This was recorded before the Captain Marvel announcement!

This was such a fun conversation, despite my 7 year old laptop failing to cooperate on a couple of occasions. I'm glad real, in-depth comics journalism like this exists--so important to support it and keep it alive!

Finally, FINALLY, you can listen to the special panel recorded at Lexington Comic Con where @nearmintcon.bsky.social, @lianakangas.com, @thekylestarks.bsky.social, and I share our respective Mount Rushmores of Comics Everyone Should Read. It's a very good time...and surprisingly contentious!

New readers have been fueling the success of the direct market the past two years. But what's driving them into comic shops? And what can publishers and retailers do to keep them coming in? This week's feature on SKTCHD tries to answer those questions with insight from retailers.
