Started a support session with a chat agent. Didn't help, so I asked for escalation to a human agent. Human agent was clearly copy-pasting to / from an LLM, so he gave me zero extra value, just took longer to parrot the same stuff from their knowledge base. Had to rub it in 😜

GPT 5.6 Sol makes Fable's value look sooo bad Even 5.6 Terra immediately obsoletes 5.5, with higher intelligence for less money and they're all available in standard ChatGPT subs... unlike a certain model that's going away from subs tomorrow.

I just love stuff like this where the Svelte team keeps rethinking stuff where they're already far ahead of everyone else. Leaning more & more into Standard Schema at the framework level has been one of the best things that happened to SveleteKit; it's so insanely ergonomic, without any lock-in!

rich harris@rich-harris.dev

SvelteKit arguably has a more sophisticated and flexible system for handling env vars than any other framework. We think we can do better though. Here's what we're working on: github.com/sveltejs/kit... Give it a read and let us know if you have feedback

Awesome talk (from 2024!!) by @maggieappleton.com: maggieappleton.com/home-cooked... This is even more relevant now that LLMs' agentic capabilities have grown extensively, though I'm not sure how well are we faring when it comes to "local-first" being suggested by default by these tools.

If you get an email like this from "SendGrid" DO NOT CLICK OR PUT CREDENTIALS. It's a fishing campaign that's evading detection, using a legit compromised SendGrid account (in this case Stacy Witbeck, a U.S construction company)

Still have some projects (where I can't use RC) relying on a barely maintained / low-quality Play Billing wrapper that I've always wanted to rip out, but never bothered as I didn't wanna deal with the complexity I guess this is my sign to point opencode at this handbook and let it rip

Will soon be using this at a much larger scale, against the entirety of Fontsource fonts (i.e. Google Fonts + more, every version of every font) periodically on a server for indexing and search, so I'm wondering how much more optimization could be done in that front.

it's not every day that i get to commit stuff like this

An autoresearch loop is very intriguing for this, once I lock-in the exact semantics and expected outputs, since the metric here is very clear and easily measurable with a tight feedback loop. A cheap but smart model like MiniMax M2.7 would be great for this.

Sidenote: I'm still very surprised by the price-to-intelligence ratio of MiniMax M2.7, it literally costs 100x less than frontier while being super close, and from 2x to 10x than models like Kimi K2.6 or Mimo V2.5, though these are better at long-horizon stuff (and Kimi has a great chat style)

I have nothing to do with Clojure, yet this is one of the best documentaries I've ever watched πŸ’š Immediately jumped to watching "Simple Made Easy" and various other talks by Rich; I feel like a new level's been unlocked And now everything I've ever written is immediately due for a deep redesign 😭

The Clojure documentary premieres live later today! Thanks to the folks who participated, Nu for sponsoring, and all those who helped in the development of Clojure and its community. I'll be in the chat, and I hope to see you there! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y24v...

this change takes extracting codepoints from a large CJK font (e.g. noto sans jp, with ~16000 codepoints repeated across various subtables) from ~7s to under ~40ms. that's where the 200x comes from. the difference grows exponentially with codepoint count, so it's less pronounced on smaller counts

This is one of those features I didn't know I needed but can't live without anymore.

Compose Multiplatform gang: HTML interop in web is about to get a whole lot smoother boy I hope this gets standardized and adopted soon enough, as it'd solved most headaches when trying to embed native web elements into Compose Web.

I've been playing around with Chrome's experimental HTML-in-Canvas API (I use it to create my videos), and I wanted to see if I could make text-selection work on a curved surface by moving the underlying element around on pointermove. It works pretty well!

Very excited about this... the new direction we are moving svelte custom renderers towards require much less code. That plus the fact that agents are somewhat better now gives me hope I can bring this in a decent place soon 🀞🏻

Rebound is just an incredible Compose performance tool! Can't wait to try this on Unimap. It's a tiny "toy" app with a very large grid (with small items), that I've always struggled to manually optimize, so this might finally clue me into the root cause of it all.

aditlal.devIntroducing Rebound: context-aware recomposition budgets for ComposeWe had stable data in prod for months. One feature change broke it. We shipped it. Nobody caught it because the recomposition count didn't look unusual β€” it just looked unusual for that composable. No...

TIL that Google had a payments hold on my Play Console account since January 2024 (!!!) that prevented sales to users in Brazil. 0 communicationt, no alerts to let me know, just a silent hold. The reason I even investigated it is thanks to two Brazilian users reaching out in the last 2 months.

Given that Brazil is one of the largest user-bases I have (aside from U.S, India, and some EU countries), this means a meaningful portion of revenue was lost to nothing. Considering it's a one-time purchase, for a niche utility app with low retention, most of these users are never coming back.

But this was still a very fortunate time to find out about this, given that Font Viewer isn't making much revenue to begin with, with a few purchases scattered across each month. Since I'm about to release larger apps where I've invested a ton of time, it was good to figure this out before then!

I've had intermittent "can't pay" reviews over the past 2 years, but I shrugged them off as one-off issues, particularly since none of them emailed with more context. All I can see is the device language, which for the 2 users contacting me was Portuguese and English, no pattern to notice either.

After these 2 reports, and some back and forth with Play Console support, I've been told that there was some hold on my account, and that I should follow through with the Google Payments team instead. And indeed, this is what the payments team had to say:

Well, well, well... look who suddenly remembered they can ship new features. Right after the community started working on an alternative. What a coincidence! πŸ™ƒ

Just started using TickTick after years of failing to make Todoist work for me... BOY what was I missing, this thing is incredible. Having tasks, notes, habits, countdowns, calendar, and many more features in one unified experience is just SO sleek. Highly recommend!
