A vengeance-driven autocratic Trump returning to power exemplifies "you come at the king, you best not miss," but there is no reason why that can't also apply to vengefully, incessantly working to obliterate every essence of anti-democracy Trumpism and Trump sympathy from all American institutions.

tommy did not get paid $250k to disrupt el-sayed's event. tommy's dad TIMMY's LLC was paid that amount. whether timmy gave tommy a cut is unknown at this point.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

This will never not look like a Parks and Recreation bit.

I don't think the Jindal solution to being a non-White candidate was especially effective.

yes. conservatives looked at the american experiment in mass, high quality education over the course of the 20th century and concluded that it was a failure that threatened to overturn existing hierarchies of status.

I am way too online for my own good, and I had an unreasonably large twitter following, and I really *enjoyed* twitter for a lot of years, and yet leaving there and never looking back was maybe the easiest what-felt-like-a-big-ethical decision I've ever made.

Interested in what members of the mathematical community think on the recent release of hundreds of preprints on openproblems? I recommend reading the snapshot of immediate reactions collected on proofs and prompts! proofsandprompts.com/2026/10/08/1... #math #mathAndAI #mathsky #mathematics

My expectation is that once the dust settles and the aftershocks subside, if guardrails haven't been put up against AI models "sniping" results, we'll either be left with a mathematical research community more secretive than collaborative, or one with noticeably-lessened enthusiasm for research.

That said, I'm not working on the cutting edge of any math branch – my perspective is, loosely, "will I get the necessary insight to complete this classification or push this local problem a little further" – plausibly a different feeling at the cutting edge. But the link above suggests otherwise!

This is why I will not be lectured by people who think it’s so mean that I’ve gone no contact with people, including family, for supporting this. It’s not a difference of opinion, it’s a difference in values. No amount of shitty WSJ op-eds will change that.

There’s a political dynamic that is motivating him to say these things in a Fox News interview. You are all smart enough to know that. And to be frank, your audience would be better served by you helping them to understand that dynamic than by you reflecting their anxiety back at them.

My issue with lots of the big accounts on here is that everyone on this app knows you disagree with Talarico. No shit. You aren’t adding anything by saying, “wow, sir! Bad take!” If you genuinely think people shouldn’t support Talarico, just say that. If you don’t, you need to be more intentional.

twenty five years later there's one thing we can say about 9/11 and its aftermath: it was an absolute fucking disaster for pretty much everyone in the world

Since 9/11, the GOP has relied heavily on a culture war machine that selects a target minority and hoses them down with inflammatory rhetoric to mobilize voters. Since then, we've seen it focus fire on: Muslims Arabs Mexicans Gay people Refugees Immigrants Trans people Any others I'm forgetting?

Hard to say if they would have followed the same path without 9/11, or if they would have found the same successes. But in this timeline, the escalation of rhetoric from 9/11 onwards is pretty apparent.

Doomsday clock is almost at midnight, must be time for wrecker shit.

I’m a Texan trans kid who almost died because of Ken Paxton. The world should know what he’s done. This was very difficult for me to write, but given what's at stake, I cannot bear to stay silent about what I went through at Paxton's hands. He must not be rewarded for what he's done to trans kids.

"I'll shoot the hostage!" Talarico would indisputably be better for trans people and other minorities in Texas (and nationwide), but a bunch of people in the replies here and in the quoted skeets would rather performatively throw them all to the wolves.

There's no forgiving this. No living it down. It's a stain on our humanity. When all this is over, the monsters who did this should be pariahs. And the soulless thugs who cheered it on while dehumanizing Haitian immigrants should be reminded of what they did every day of their lives.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.
