I‘d like to think I’m very patient and kind when I’m helping people with tech issues but the one thing I will never understand is when someone hands me a phone or a computer going “idk what’s wrong / idk what to do” and on the screen is a huge bold message telling them what’s wrong and what to do

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I want all trans people to know that Erika Hilton is a black transwoman and the most-voted congresswoman in the history of Brazil, with 1.5 millions votes. She campaigned for Lula over the last three weeks. WE TRANS PEOPLE CAN EXIST IN POLITICS. It’s not a dream. It’s already a reality in Brazil!

from what I remember his response was basically “yeah that wasn’t nice, but sometimes we just say things to friends who are going through it” ah yeah I remember all the times my friends told me their relationship struggles and I dreamed up ways to fucking murder their partners

THE CIRCUMSTANCES: 1. my son got a new animal puzzle 2. when you put an animal in its slot it makes a sound 3. this is triggered by the animal covering a light sensor 4. he has lost the cat THE RESULT: whenever I turn the lights off downstairs I hear a meow from the darkness

there's a reason I never win at Cards Against Humanity type games and that's because I would submit something like this and think it was genuinely hilarious while normal humans would stare at it blankly

I don't say all this to defend no kings the Company cause I couldn't give a shit. and I'm not saying anybody has to go. but for us, it was a way to start getting involved. and if you're a political commenter telling me what's bad about it, you'd better follow up with a different thing that's good.

my wife and I went to no kings for the first time last week and it was nice. it was not our end-all-be-all, but we got to meet like-minded people in our area, really cool organizations were tabling (including anti-ICE and pro-Palestine orgs) and we got connected with them.

we're also making a concerted effort to get to know our neighbors, something we've been bad at in the past. it's super important to us right now to be building community and finding ways to participate and help. no kings was another stepping stone for us.

and that's what gets me. if you truly think the only way forward is to destroy the entire system, but don't take real steps towards that future, you're not a revolutionary. you're just a defeatist by another name.

now I don't mean to criticize this creator's personal activism cause I don't know what it is. maybe she's doing a lot for her community and that's awesome. but I can almost guarantee that a huge chunk of people watching and liking this video are feeling discouraged from doing anything themselves.

I took a dive into this person's posts and while I saw some hints in some places suggesting actionable ideas, it was mostly in the form of posting videos of violent revolutionary action in a "wish this was us" sort of way

there's no suggestion of what to do instead, what effective change looks like, nothing. it's just announcing that this thing, yet another thing that you thought was maybe good, is actually bad just like everything else.

the information doesn't piss me off. if it's true (she doesn't give any evidence but I wouldn't be surprised) then it's good to know. it's important for us to be aware of who's behind these types of movements, especially the ones that claim to be "grassroots"

also criticism of these organizations doesn't automatically piss me off. no one is above accountability, and I think the question of whether or not these protests are actually effecting any change is a valid and important one.

Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down.

it's 2030. there is one american game job. the game is a result of the fortnite-roblox merger. they added gatchas and ads exclusively for prediction market platforms. while you work on it, jared kushner and a random c-suite with at least 3 sexual assault cases take turns yelling at you.
