It will never cease to amaze me that furries will yell and shout about conventions "costing too much" when their finances are (one way or another) public info, but any time FA suddenly needs a $100k injection of cash, people in droves throw money around & say they're saving the community doing so.

FA *needs* to be operated as a nonprofit. We have been at this for 20 years at this point. We need to stop throwing money into black holes and have real transparency into the finances. It would also open the door for other community nonprofits (i.e. Cons) to more easily support the site.

The check engine light came on as I dropped them all off, and didn't really ever go off again (I could clear it and it would be OK for a while and then come back.) I sold the car a few months later. That short trip was the catalyst for me getting rid of it. Just a silly story, I guess.

My favorite part about social media is seeing people post stuff like "a bunch of rubber pups take the subway at Folsom Europe" and then remembering the STINK people made a few weeks ago over a US furry con having a pup room INSIDE A HOTEL.

I've been trying to write a response to Gomi's post here... But there's just so much that I could say. I have been involved in cons long enough (10+ years!) that I feel like the burnout cycle is speeding up a bit, I'm seeing people tired after a third of the time I've spent doing it.

I've been thinking since I stepped down from FWA leadership about how much furry conventions have grown, and how much we now ask of the volunteers who keep them running. I decided to put those thoughts into words, and I'd appreciate it if you'd give them a read: gomi.gay/blog/26-09-0...

were correct to assume they'd be overworked. I feel like a lot of these convention "machines" are, at this point, Rube Goldberg-esque contraptions where getting new people up to speed is a daunting task.

One ongoing issue I see, is that people who have skills to offer *don't* volunteer because they are concerned about becoming an "overworked" volunteer. It creates a vicious cycle. People get burnt out because there's no "new blood" which proves that the people who didn't involve themselves...

Once again, it would be super nice if conventions were more upfront about THEIR costs. The hotel/convention center is not putting those tables and chairs on the floor just out of kindness. Cons are nickled and dimed on everything. Many furry cons already heavily subsidize dealers rooms.

Begging and pleading for furry cons to start giving complimemtary badges with tables like other cons do. Especially as they start charging $3-500+ for spots and $100+ for badges. My mom is helping me for 3 hours and I might have to pay an extra $100 for that. This feels really shitty.

Fucking around: Figuring out ways to bypass the hotel checking for room keys at Megaplex 2025. Finding out: The hotel cracking down on people sneaking in in 2026.

Also this has always been the case at like, every hotel ever? BLFC's hotel has like a doorknob display from Home Depot with a working room lock on it that they make you scan your door key on to make sure it's active. This is not new. People are extremely entitled.

Found the issue! A little vinegar with and an isopropyl rinse cleaned it up and fixed the problem. It boots normally now!

I was able to obtain two very pricey wireless microphone transmitters a while back, because batteries exploded in them and they got tossed in e-waste. The batteries did not really leak into the electronics part so I was able to clean them up. They look like shit but *mostly* work.

One of them works fine, one of them has a short somewhere in the front button panel that causes it to go into firmware update mode. It's so close to working!!! It doesn't do that sometimes and works fine when it does, but I can't find where the short is happening. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

We had someone at work with just an absolutely insanely massive R&D budget, who would just buy like $30,000 pieces of equipment and then not do anything with them. It is always fun to boot something from them up and it's like "this was last booted one time in 2022".

HOT TAKE: Many of the things we call "drive-thrus" should actually be referred to as "drive-bys". Please find my scientific evidence attached. Thank you for your understanding

I know this is an ad but it absolutely infuriates me how this shit lighting style is so pervasive and the hot podcast lighting style. It is trash. "Yes, I don't want to see half of the people on screen!!! Please give me LESS light!!! - Statements dreamed up by the utterly Deranged

People will say this looks "realistic", but if you were sitting in a room that only had light coming from one side of it, you'd turn on more lights. Nobody is sitting in a house that's lit like this. IMO it looks inauthentic and fake. Turn the damn fill light up already!!!
