Post to be pinned to give people background/context since my name isn't on this account. - Born in Vancouver. - Moved to Aberystwyth, Wales. - Things went bad. - Ex deported me. - Homeless until things settle down. If you know me IRL please leave alone me because, things are pretty bad.

Such a nerd. My server was failing to resolve deb, debian, org but is connected to the internet. I could do a bunch of network debug... But I just pinged the URL from my localhost, got the IP, and popped an entry in /etc/hosts.

A crime committed by a large org in general needs to prosecuted. If an individual or small company generates child porn it's prosecuted. X,com does it and they get a slap on the wrist.

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

Nah, I think the ghost is looking out the attic window, a little furious. "That doesn't look anything like ME, it's insulting to think all ghost are billowy sheets and say boo. Some of us a real intellectuals you know."

Somewhere, a ghost is reviewing the neighborhood's Halloween decorations and leaving one-star reviews. “Excellent cobwebs. Disappointing fog machine. Pumpkin lacks menace.” #SpookySeason #GhostHumor #Halloween

May I recommend this lovely interview with ‘literary power couple’ Marlon James and Nicholas Boggs. Both have particularly worked on giving voice to the forgotten histories of Black gay men. James is shortlisted for the Booker and Boggs for the Baillie Gifford… www.theguardian.com/books/2026/o...

"AI will destroy humanity" has always and only been an attempt to distract from "AI will leak your login credentials to the internet"

Emily Bell@emilybell.bsky.social

Three weeks ago AI founders were all over the press making vague but portentous comments about the existential risks and power of their models. This week their models are part of a widespread security failure around critical systems such as your bank account..a more immediate and serious risk 1/

We have the technology to leave fossil fuels in the past. It is political will that is lacking.

Halloween may be around the corner, but the real horror is what billionaires are out here saying while we’re just trying to exist😒 #billionaires #makerichpolluterspay #climateaction #climatecrisis #halloween

And since AI is just the general average. Its making a design that mimics the millions of bad designs already out there.

I think the thing about AI and small business owners is that previously the design would have to be run past either a second person who know some amount of design, or they'd learn photoshop and some amount of design with it now they can ask the AI to do their bad design and the AI never says no

FYI in late-stage-capitalism corporations don't get to make ultimatums of government. Imagine an auto manufacturerer saying to California "loosen your environment standards or we stop selling in America". California would openly laugh at that.

Bad company recognizes their product is bad so makes a show of making it less bad.... This is like Google planting trees and using solar; it looks good but it's a tiny improvement on overall bad impact.

This feels like the outcome devised to ensue from floating the talking point of the moment a month or so ago about “Well at least the robber barons were PHILANTHROPISTS” which made them good and important to American society. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

At first I thought I definitely don't have any pictures of boats, then I remembered I own 2! First is my fav, second was pretty, third was lowest tide I've ever seen.

Go to your camera roll, search for “boat”, post one that you like.

As a tech worker I really REALLY want to know if this was an automated/AI thing or human intervention. Incredibly sus and terrible behavior by a tech oligarch.

Meta took down the No Kings organizing page today - the biggest day of protest this fall. They provided zero explanation. It stayed down for the entire afternoon until most of the protests were done. Outrageous. Put this on the January investigation list.

At a bare minimum, if you want your trash/recycling picked up, you have to pay for it. On a broader perspective, if you want to live in a civilized society you need to obey civil law.

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

I'm gonna make this real simple for all the right wingers, SUV drivers, etc: if you don't have to obey the law, then neither do I. That means I can murder you because that's the law I choose not to obey.

For anyone who was worried, I can confirm that "straight white old male" privilege is international. I went to a grocery store, bought some expensive cheese (that had a security tag). As I left the alarm went off. Security guard at the door looks at me and waves me on without a second thought.

There was a few scruffy/homeless looking people around, hence the security guard. But I have the "ok look" so rarely get questions. Granted I wouldn't steal but some would and in fact some rely on the privilege bias to bypass security and it is in effect profiling.

My mother and my sister have both said "I won't talk about your divorce". That's probably a very good explanation of why I am the way I am. In this family if a man faces anything tough, we don't talk about it and we make him feel bad.
