Highlight of my week. My student baked #Shiny hex sticker shortbread for our interactive dashboard class 😭

I'm talking about what I'm working on right now. This is not a retrospective. Sign up through the link below! #Rstats #Tidyverse #Rshiny

Two more weeks until we sync with @shikokuchuo.net (see what I did there?) and learn about the parallel computing stack he has been working on! Still plenty of room folks to join ☺️ 🗓️ THU 22 Oct ⌚️18:00 AEDT | 07:00 UTC 📌 Register statsoc.org.au/event-6817896

TokyoR enjoyed the world premiere of mizu today, and Mizu-chan stole the show: lock-free shared-memory parallelism for R, plus a Python binding on the same C core. Repos are open but pre-release, and the API will change. Feedback welcome on GitHub. github.com/shikokuchuo/... #RStats #Tidyverse

ぜひ試して、感想はGitHubへ! github.com/shikokuchuo/...

How does this relate to mirai? mizu cuts communication overhead between processes on one machine, so work can be split at granularities usually reserved for threads. mirai still covers remote workers and HPC. We're working on bringing mizu to the places you use parallelism most.

🎤 Just presented “shinyreact: Building Custom Shiny UI with React” at posit::conf(2026) 🤔 Ever written JS or CSS inside an R string? shinyreact moves your UI to React: two hooks on the client, reactive_output() on the server. 📚 bit.ly/posit-2026-shinyreact #rstats #shiny #reactjs

Come join me at posit::conf(2026)! We're almost there (Sept 14-16). I'm speaking in the 'from laptop to cluster' session on scaling further and scaling safely for Shiny and other R production workloads. There's a page for everything that's happening: conf.posit.co/2026/sessions/ #Rstats #Rshiny

Some of us at Posit have switched to Kimi K3 as a daily driver. Really proud that my colleagues host this open weights model in Posit AI. I've not had to reach for Fable all week!

I'm leaving for vacation next week, so I thought it might be fun to share some of my non-work uses of AI. See my weird and wacky uses at: tidydesign.substack.com/p/ai-outside...

I've been really impressed with Kimi K3 and GLM 5.2 the last couple weeks. I'm excited to share that we've made the models available in Posit AI with strong privacy guarantees and a steep discount compared to the Claude models currently available in the service! opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-08...

Working on a new raster engine for #rstats, {garry}, powered by {gdalraster}, {anvl} and {mirai}. Still messy as hell but already the performance is pretty exciting. Only for the brave right now but ideas and opinions are still welcome! github.com/belian-earth... #rspatial #remotesensing

Quarto 1.10 shipped Friday. The highlights page lists one feature. The changelog lists 74. Mostly preview friction: stale pages, _brand.yml ignored until restart, format: changes needing two renders. If you work in Positron, that's your whole day. A boring release. Best kind.

I adore examples of good crosspolination across languages. In-line dependencies is an awesome uv feature. Excited to see it inhabit the R and Quarto worlds as well!

I'm happy to share `ir`, a new command-line tool for running portable R scripts and Quarto documents. It's inspired by my two favorite parts of `uv`: self-describing scripts and tools you can run without installing first. opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-07...

We're continuing our work on {mori} the package for shared memory in #Rstats. Debuted in April, we just released 0.2.2. A patch release for technical correctness, it's a prerequisite for future work we have planned. We hope you'll try it out as we build out more features! shikokuchuo.net/mori

Fantastic talk from @emitanaka.org on working with LLMs in #datascience at #ICOTS12. I've distilled my experience of useR! 2026 Warsaw into a blog post. Hoping that people who couldn't attend get a taste of it, and are motivated to participate in the next one - or come join us for posit::conf(2026) in Houston! #RStats #useR2026 opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-07...

For those who wanted to find me, but didn't get the chance - the userR! slack is still open, I'm also on the rOpenSci one, feel free to ping me on either.

Until next time! It's been a fantastic #useR2026 in Warsaw. Honestly, there's a real depth to the talent we have in our #Rstats community. Keep doing your amazing work and wow us all at the next conf! (can you spot me here?)

It's always nice to re-connect with old friends, but some of my best conversations at #useR2026 this year have been with people I'm meeting for the first time. For many of them this is their first useR!, even if they've been doing #Rstats stuff for a number of years. I also spoke about CRDTs today!

#Rstats really is a great community - I'm surprised by how many ppl I know through past events. It's been so great catching up with you all - everyone I've spoken to thus far. Also delighted to be meeting some people for the first time! #useR2026 opening reception a success, onto the first conf day!
