Cat dad north of Hadrian’s Wall. Hillwalker. Probably “woke”. Sometime korfballer. Music, food and travel. And history and architecture. #NUFC North-eastern England. Late stage dementia carer. Like Reform? Passionate about flags? You’re going to hate me.

Amazing how many Labour MPs do not understand this quite basic point.

Christabel Cooper@christabelcoops.bsky.social

Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

So, as well as often rewriting history, Farage is now trying to rewrite the dictionary. A scammer isn't just a liar, which Badenoch often is. It's someone who uses trickery, illegal methods, or lies in order to obtain money, data, or valuable assets from others. 'Nigerian scammer' is a racist trope.

What the actual fuck?

Bats have long been associated with the spirit of Halloween, and no bat is more on theme than vibrant orange-and-black painted wooly bats. 🦇🎃 Yet the truly scary thing about them is how quickly their populations are declining — primarily due to being killed so their bodies can be used for decor. 🧵

Have to say I’m surprised that Eddie Howe is so heavily linked with the Man U job given that the top down structure there and not being able to have absolute control over the running of the club is essentially the reason he’s not still at NUFC.

When he was appointed, it was essentially under the assumption that he called the shots on the DoF. It’s why Ashworth didn’t stick around and why things didn’t work with Mitchell. He’d need to have amnesia for these not to be issues for him now.

Maybe his mindset has changed in the last 4 months and there are some issues he faced at NUFC that he wouldn’t face at Man Utd but it would seem like quite a volte face in terms of the managerial principles he’s shown at AFCB and at NUFC.

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

505 is absolutely shocking. That’s what the BBC need to do away with. If you’d listened to this evenings instalment you’d have come away with the impression that only Man Utd, Liverpool and Brighton played today.

Throw a stick into the Stretford End and it will hit at least 5 people who will make more coherent points than the #mufc fans on #606. At least some of them will have Manchester accents.

Sport radio is on its latest bout of, “One more managerial change will turn around Manchester United”, when the whole enterprise remains fundamentally, perpetually cursed by a takeover expressly designed to bleed dry a club and enrich a family - cheerily waved through by a certain Alex Ferguson.

I’ve been rewatching the BBC version of Sense and Sensibility. Apparently Colonel Brandon is too old because he’s 35 and Marianne does not consider him an appropriate suitor. Which makes me positively ancient by regency standards. I feel my years today.

It’s windy: waiting for a metro into town and a massive plastic sheet blew off someone’s greenhouse and onto the track. Wind picked it up like it was nothing. If it had hit someone it probably would have sliced them in half.

I’m not crying. You’re crying.

This grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but the one friend who never abandoned him—and whom he never forgot—was his little cat. Original post

I’d download that.

To counteract this we are going to rush-release a happy hardcore helium version of The Millennium Prayer and rerun the 1999 Xmas Chart Battle.

The last time I tried something I saw on TV I was three. There was an ad for an Italian(?) car which went down some steps. I tried to ride my tricycle down the stairs. I broke an arm and narrowly missed a glass door. Doing stuff we’ve seen done on TV is something we should avoid.

Vulture@vulture.com

‘Wicker’ stars Alexander Skarsgård as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick. But what about splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? We asked a gynecologist: vulture.visitlink.me/DNQwX5

There’s one good reason to keep him then.

Mark Goldbridge calls for Manchester United to 𝐒ack Michael Carrick immediately! "I would be changing the manager this morning. I'm very surprised he's still in place... He's got all the signs of somebody that's completely out of their depth."

The thing that struck me about the Reform documentary, apart from the mediocre white men and their casual racism/sexism is that Reform would probably move to the right in government. Every government does. The repulsive and unspeakable would become ever more commonplace.

You can see why people get pissed off with Labour / Tory inaction when it comes to the notth and the regions more generally. Leeds metro system was screwed by Beeching and no-one is prepared to help the city improve and thrive. The metro system will never be realised even with Burnham's regionalism

This is a joy, if only to listen to the horror of a local docker. Sure, you wouldn’t get it in Bangkok, boy….

Odd This Day@oddthisday.bsky.social

Today is, rather wonderfully, the 31st anniversary of this excellent report from RTE (Ireland’s public service broadcaster) about DIRTY MUCKY FILTH coming to Cork in the form of Utopia Adult Products, a sex shop which owed its existence to… [checks notes] er, Saddam Hussein

Just when I think I can look at my bank account and be glad that there seems to be more in than this time last month/year, looks like I’m heading towards a car service MOT. And a FatFace sale has just begun.

This is how you deal with bigotry in an intelligent, reasoned and sensible way. Great work.
