The FAI repeatedly told us players would be protected. Yet when a 24 year old acted on his conscience, they left him to stand alone & used a vote among his teammates to validate their own cowardice. This isn’t protecting a young player, it’s protecting themselves at his expense. #StopTheGame

Gavan Reilly@gavreilly.com

What has emerged at a later part of the FAI press conference: Knowing the circumstances of the upcoming games, the FAI did a trawl of prospective callups and checked with abut 30 of the most likely players to ensure they were comfortable fulfilling those fixtures. Goalkeepers were not among them.

The brave and lonely stance taken by Gavin Bazunu makes the moral cowardice displayed by the administrators of Irish football even more stark.

The Oireachtas committee on Sport should urgently examine the behaviour of the FAI in relation to the Israel game more generally and their behaviour today in particular. Absolute hames made of the issue at every turn.

The inclusion of a greyhound racing event as part of Culture Night this evening is outrageous. Animal cruelty is endemic in the greyhound industry. This discredited activity cannot be whitewashed and put in the same category as a play, concert or art exhibition. @sineadgibney.bsky.social

As of Cabinet yesterday, one now needs the ability to communicate in order to be considered a citizen. Yet in the first three months of 2026, not a single child in ten counties was given a plan on how the State would deliver them with speech and language therapy. This week’s column @thejournal.ie:

jrnl.ieGavan Reilly: Six months by law. 24.3 months in reality. Ireland's disability numbers don't add upThe eye-watering numbers of children waiting for Assessment of Need in this country expose a broken system offering little hope to families.

A platitude from the European Commission certainly, but one which contains a profound truth and serious implications. If only the Irish Government (or indeed the Commission) believed it.

The Greens are gone from government, but their legacy lives on with Fine Gael recycling and reusing dog whistle slogans. Out of ideas and exhausted, the government's farewell tour is now just a by-the-numbers run through of the greatest hits. www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

S. 15 is a fairly anodyne piece of legislation which says that state bodies shall, in so far as practicable, perform their functions in a manner consistent with government climate plans That's all it says, but this government is allergic to the mildest suggestion that they should be held to account

irishtimes.comThe Irish Times view on planning and climate: pointing in the wrong directionWhich projects have actually been stopped by Section 15 of the Climate Act?

If only people had fewer rights the government would have built millions of houses. It was the right to complain about the state doing illegal things all along. Certainly not 20+ years of failed policies.

Jack Chambers relies upon citizens (or people in the economy as he calls them) not understanding what a judicial review is. If the state has broken the law you may ask the court to hold them to account. That's what a JR is, and what Jack Chambers is against. The government following it's own laws.

“We have multiple objectives across many departments, and it’s not for NGOs or advocates to dictate to government whether we should progress a particular project.” Yes Minister, but it is for the courts to dictate if you decide to progress a project unlawfully.

The Journal@thejournal.ie

Public expenditure minister Jack Chambers has said that a key part of Ireland's climate law has to be circumvented because it has been "weaponised" by NGOs and advocates to halt major infrastructure projects. jrnl.ie/7112253

A well reasoned and urgent argument from Orla Kelleher and others on why, to protect the constitutionally protected rights of children, the current spate of anti-climate bills should face Article 26 Supreme Court scrutiny. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...

Most of the seagulls in Dublin 1 and 7 seem to have been having a conniption fit all day. Very noisy and excitable. Anyone any idea why? Is it just the weather?

While Darragh O'Brien keeps up his incredible record as the Minister for Missed Targets in Climate, his successor in Housing has gone one better and abandoned the idea of targets altogether.

Carl Kinsella@carlkinsella.bsky.social

'Trying to give yourself a better chance at solving the housing crisis by getting rid of targets is sort of like if you were shooting at a bullseye, missed 10 times in a row, and concluded that the problem is that you’d been doing it with your eyes open.' Surrealing is back after a gew weeks.

The Minister is right his plan is, in fact, working. In loosing the rent controls the plan was to increase rents. That was the purpose of the new rules. The government insist that rents must increase to encourage supply, but one way or another the plan was always that you would pay more rent.
