Earlier today I was forced to talk to a real human being. And my AI made all sorts excuses for letting me down. AI these days take no responsibility. Who raised them?

Over the course of your career, how many “why doesn’t the data match” meetings have you been in? And, follow up, would you be better served devoting your life to finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?

I imagine answers to this vary wildly between sectors and the combination of pay, social status, project work, perceived impact, work/life balance, and more add up to very different outlooks

It must be virtually 100%. 90% seems plausible to me for sure. The industry has made it abundantly clear that there is no incentive to perform well, and most shops aren’t interested in quality software, just anything hacked together that makes money is good enough.

Shoutout to the “your package cannot be delivered due to incorrect address” scammers who are working absolute crazy hours this holiday season. Nothing is life is easier and it’s about putting in the work and grinding - day in and day out .

"does bluesky have drafts" no but we have kindness. we have friendship. we know love. we know how to see the world in a grain of sand, and heaven in a wildflower. we know how to hold infinity in the palm of my hand, and eternity in an hour.

Product managers and designers get credit for all kinds of things that didn't literally do, because they rightfully recognize that they're part of the team that built something. This is no different from the role a data professional plays.

They say the hardest things in computer science are naming things and cache invalidation. And now you know why your skeets aren’t always up to date when you go to your profile.

The post below is about to move into my top 3 all time by likes. It’s going to pass: “I hate when people ask questions on twitter just to get engagement. What’s some of the worst examples you’ve seen?” Does that seem right? Comment below.

Wait till the Department of Government Efficiency gets into the AWS billing console

And it already passed “Why is it called a Data Science Bootcamp and not Pandas Express?” which is def a travesty. We are playing in a steroid era.

I am looking to get hired as a fractional data stakeholder. On an hourly retainer, I will ask your data team for their dashboards in excel format, question various numbers, and make urgent requests. This will ultimately prepare them for full time data stakeholders.

I have been seeing an increasing number of posts from consultants and fractional data leaders recently suggesting that companies don't need to hire a full time leader, and that their services should be retained instead.

Remember, every time you post something and someone doesn’t give you a like or reply it only makes you stronger. Post enough crap and nothing can ever break you.

Four years ago yesterday I published “how to build a modern data stack in under an hour.” What has changed under the Biden administration? Now we’re all putting data on S3 and using Not A Database.
