Oh this is neat. ETH is assumed to be true in a bunch of theoretical CS work, so there's quite a lot of opportunities to revisit priors and maybe have a few faster foundational algorithms down the road openai.com/index/buildi...

openai.comWorking with academic communities to build scientific understandingOpenAI shares model results on the Kakeya conjecture, Exponential Time Hypothesis, and quantum chromodynamics—and how researchers can verify and build on them.

This one had some applicability in my work at Microsoft on compilers, regarding how overload resolution on lambdas implied solving 3-SAT. Maybe if ETH wasn't expected to be true in the literature, we'd have had a practical algorithm to solve it efficiently? Who knows, but interesting stuff

And maybe not, that's the fun with scientific work I suppose. But upend a prior like that and surely there's a different computational future ahead of us

Okay this event is now EXTRA funny

This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

Very funny stuff: In our HOA bylaws you need over half the votes from all homeowners to cancel a special assessment. But you only need 33% of the homeowners to remove the current HOA Board and elect an interim board who are allowed to cancel it. You learn some funny shit in life

We really lost something by upgrading image generators. Plugging in shit like “my happy family at the beach” gave you horrifying things like this and it was actually great

You can’t even get image generators now to make images in the style of these old gems because they hyper-realize it all. They completely lost that nightmarish, bulbous kludging together of pieces of flesh and I hate it

If I had a nickel for interactions with professional clowns today I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice

I hate it as much as you do, but we need to all get over ourselves and admit that AI music has taken off, culturally, and it’s because of Charlie Kirk

Can someone please explain to me the particular brainrot people seem to have about porting code to Rust when .NET is just right there for you?

Out of all of them, cyber threats actually do freak me out because, though actionable, they are still very much computers doing computer shit with each other and can cause a lot of harm. OAI-HF is a canary in the coal mine to fucking shore some shit up
