👁️🧠🧪 Vision takes time. But how does visual information flow through the human brain? Our new PLOS Computational Biology paper uses population receptive field (pRF) modelling to bring the spatial precision of fMRI to MEG, revealing the temporal dynamics of visual areas. 📖 doi.org/10.1371/jour...

doi.orgNon-invasive mapping of the temporal processing hierarchy in the human visual cortexAuthor summary Vision doesn’t happen instantaneously, but unfolds over time. While we understand a lot about how the brain processes visual space, understanding how the brain processes information ove...

Rather than focusing on response onset, we characterize the activation window of each visual area. The figure reveals a clear temporal hierarchy across the visual cortex, from earlier activation windows in V1 to progressively later ones in higher visual areas.

In sports, we celebrate 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Everyone else gets lumped together. Why? Using 7T MRI, pRF modelling, and artificial neural networks, we show that tuning underlies ordinality perception, with most neural populations preferring early ordinalities. doi.org/10.1523/JNEU... 🧪🧠

doi.orgNeural tuning for ordinal processing: convergent patterns in human brains and artificial networksProcessing ordinality, i.e., the rank of an item in a series such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc., is a fundamental skill shared by humans and animals. While humans often use symbolic sequences like numbers or...

Excited to share that my first article is now published in Communications Biology! Humans and many animals have an innate ability to rapidly perceive numerosity—the number of objects in a visual scene. But how does our brain process this fundamental capability? Read the full paper: rdcu.be/eRxMi

Our new paper is out in Nature Communications! nature.com/articles/s41... We combined psychophysics, 7T fMRI, and computational modeling of vision with placebo, 5mg, and 10mg psilocybin, in the same group of participants, to clarify the computational mechanisms of psychedelics. 🧵

Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, alters perception and induces hallucinations. In this preprint, we show through visual illusions, fMRI and modeling that psilocybin affects contextual computations, a potentially general mechanism of psychedelics. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
