With Tom Skerritt's passing, the cast of Alien have so far died in the same order as the director's cut (where they find Dallas still alive waiting to become a cocoon): 1) John Hurt 2) Harry Dean Stanton 3) Ian Holm 4) Yaphet Kotto 5) Tom Skerritt It's macabre, sure, but it's also fascinating.

I keep seeing how deep seeded nostalgic feelings of things, people, & concepts are a core anchor dragging everything down, from toxic discourse to outright repression. I know that nostalgia is the only positive thing some generations have, especially a lot of Millennials, but it's hurting everyone.

Hi, poor person here. this is an incorrect trope often used by the upper classes. both political parties cater to the very rich who have oddball priorities often driven by esoteric moral values. the poor are never given an option to vote for any of their own interests at all. thanks for reading.

I find this stuff fascinating; this is basically the animation world's equivalent of how pixel art games were designed to be played on glass tube TVs. The "imperfections" created in the process of publishing the work are part of the planned end product.

Animation Obsessive@ani-obsessive.bsky.social

The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...

In a less than 10 minute ride up I-4, I almost got sideswiped two times by two different vehicles from people lane changing without looking. Because that's what it's like driving the Fury Road.

Wile E. Coyote, despaired, takes a bucket of paint and a brush and paints a beautiful two-bedroom house on a mountainside. He paints a beautiful coyote wife in the window, and two adorable coyote kids running around in the yard. He tries to enter this new coyote life, but it is inaccessible to him

The fact that there was effectively a white supremacist rally, complete the the flags and salutes you'd expect, under the guise of a MMA fight in Orlando at the Kia Center the other night with only one employee trying to stop it in their section is both deeply disappointing and unsurprising

Why I don't like talking about my eternal struggle to lose weight, even when I've been told to lose a significant amount of weight from every medical professional I've seen since before hitting puberty & my weight and physical appearance being a point of rejection in my personal & professional life

Yeah. I've also seen it as "Universal Orlando sees their forecasts for the rest of the year into next year, realize they don't need the capacity like they thought due to economic forces, & push up an already planned closure by 6 months as a means to quickly save some operating costs before the drop"

Supercharged so bad they’re closing it 6 months earlier than they announced

Need to make sure this video is here. Remember the time Slamilton was shown on The Tonight Show to Lin? I do and I still can't believe it.

It's pretty remarkable how relevant It's a Wonderful Life is even 80 years after it was made. So much of it is still 100% applicable. This post brought to you by me sitting here and crying through the end of the movie.

I've been trying to get my version of the Bechdel Test to catch on called the Ballard Metric. It basically asks if the creator was able to work for free or for slave wages due to an invisible financial safety net and recontextualizes the work. (I'm kinda joking idk)

Frank J. Barbiere@fjbarb.bsky.social

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

Every time I have to explain to someone why the first 3 episodes of Wandavision are super important to the show but also great pieces of tv making, it takes two years off my life. :p (Like come ON, the way the first episode swaps from Dick Van Dyke production style to Twilight Zone is SO COOL)

Jared Kushner, the PIF and $20 billion of debt being dropped on the balance sheet. This one feels mega grim.
