Perth, Western Australia I don't label myself or my outlook on life here, especially as my views and priorities may change over time. However, a longstanding tenet of mine is "Do as you would be done by", which works for me. Take me as you find me.

#Auspol, if you want to hear truthful, kind, informed, and up-to-date commentary on what is unfolding daily in the USA, I strongly recommend David Rothkopf as a trusted source, whether it be directly or via @thedsrnetwork.bsky.social. My household listens to them every day.

American capitalism killed American democracy. Fail to admit that and it doesn't matter what election results may bring because we won't be able to fix the real issues that are hurting us as a country. davidrothkopf.substack.com/p/america-is...

Why did the Western Australian regulators not already know what was going on with massive methane leaks at Gorgon? And why the delays? Who pays? Woodside wants to do similar “safe” gas extraction at Scott Reef. Should we let them? Tell our governments: HELL NO! No more coal, gas or oil.

After 5 years of study, WA's independent environmental watchdog found Woodside's Browse gas project was an unacceptable environmental risk on multiple grounds. Read the confidential 2023 documents obtained by Boiling Cold in my story in The Guardian.

Recently, there was quite a furore in Australia's parliament about invasive species management. It seemed to me there was some misunderstanding about terminology & the very important reasons for controlling some introduced & invasive species. So, I wrote this 👉 theconversation.com/calling-spec...

theconversation.comCalling species ‘invasive’ – and culling them – isn’t done lightly. But it matters to Australia’s threatened speciesInvasive species only want to live. But their success can come at great cost to native species. If we treat them the same, native animals lose.

Please don't watch this subversive video masquerading as commentary on global events & how people feel, & are protesting about, government behaviour. It also asserts citizens' right to such protest (pah!). Don't watch it. Don't let it motivate you to peacefully let your MP know your views. #Auspol

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

For decades we were told that this plant could exist because “carbon capture and storage” was going to sequester carbon in bedrock — Dear Reader, they told that lie so they could sell gas.

Climate disaster keeps disastering: Satellite monitoring has detected massive plumes of methane pouring from Chevron's Gorgon LNG plant in Western Australia. (This is the one connected to the world’s biggest carbon capture and storage project WHIICH IS ALSO FAILING) www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

If pollution laws meant anything (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha) then both Canberra and the WA government would immediately move to shut down Chevron’s Gorgon plant

"In terms of political debate, we weigh the calling out of the increasing dehumanisation and vilification of members of our society as equal to the dehumanisation and villification itself, and then decry an end to civility." Excellent article. #Auspol

Laughable for the LNP to call on a Labor minister to resign over Snowy2. It's the LNP's dog of a project. It's the LNP that failed to do basic due dilligence (adequate geotech?), options comparisons. It was an LNP prime minister that lied about the project cost (as we ~immediately showed).

I can’t express just how absolutely grotesque it is to take a very recent and horrific crime which, if anything, can be tied to our culture’s ongoing indifference to male violence against women, and try through anguished mental gymnastics to blame it instead on people who want to stop a genocide

Odd take. I guess maintaining apartheid, running a genocide, and ethnic cleansing does "damage" the perpetrator. "What is needed is a fundamental reassessment of the country’s entire social ethos" Maybe. But that can only happen when there's accountability for Israel's crimes against humanity.

"The ability to broadcast abuse to thousands of people, often anonymously or from behind a screen, has emboldened those who might once have kept their hostility to themselves. And when violent rhetoric is normalised, should we really be surprised that attacks like this occur?" #Auspol

"The dogs jumped the gun, shat on a tragedy, mauled at the injured, and we all are watching together—shaking our heads in disgust." These words are tough but 100% true. This shameful behaviour, by people who know better but continue to do it for benefit, has to be called out and stopped. #Auspol

I recall Alan Jones suggesting Julia Gillard be put in a chaff bag and taken out to sea. He told Scott Morrison to shove a sock down Jacinda Ardern's throat and give her backhanders. A Newscorp paper once printed an image of Annastacia Palaszczuk in cross hairs. This isn't new. #auspol

Non-stop reports of settler violence and military violence in the West Bank Every 30 minutes, I've been monitoring the situation for years and I've never seen something like this Usually there was one incident per day, maybe two. Now it's completely out of control, people are actually dying

Apart from trashed Judicial process, clear Conflict of Interest etc, there's much to see here. Identical, non sequitur dismissals of any criticism of Israel's behaviour are everywhere: "the Holocaust; history..." as if that justifies any of what is being done NOW to Palestinians. It doesn't. #Auspol
