The amendment is now LIVE!!! The 17th edition was clear on this, but the 18th edition literally got rid of the one mention of this rule even though it was still supposed to apply. They've added it back thanks to moi 😎 Honestly props to the CMOS editors—they've been great! #AmEditing

🚨 New copyeditor milestone unlocked?! 🚨 I am now responsible for a future amendment to CMOS 😎 You're all welcome. I'll be autographing the relevant section of the 19th edition in some years, if anyone's interested! #AmEditing

Today is literally the first time I open Bsky in like a month, just randomly (procrastinating). I am now convinced this summoned me. YES!!!!!!!!!!!! 90s JONI YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Magdalene Laundries is unreal, and Sire of Sorrow might just be my fav Joni song of all time.

Howard Beale Street Blues@winteron.bsky.social

might have a new favorite Joni Mitchell album (shhh, don’t tell HEJIRA)

I'm gonna be stepping away from Bluesky because it's just incredibly dead on my end and I find it depressing to get literally no interaction on the regular. I'll check in here and there in case anyone I talk to on here DMs me. If there are any active editing groups on Slack, please let me know!

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

I should use my self-employed privilege tomorrow and do a little lake swimming before it gets busy busy busy after regular work hours hmmm 🤔

I used my self-employment privilege* to go to Trader Joe's at 10 am on a Wednesday, and it was the most peaceful experience. No battling the masses to get to the hummus! No deep breathing because it's so crowded! Ain't life grand? *Shoutout to @erinkmaher.bsky.social for "self-employment privilege"

🥰🤗☺️😌

Consulting giant Accenture is trying to figure out how to stop non-technical workers from blowing through companies’ AI token budget on trivial tasks like converting PDFs to presentation slides, according to leaked audio obtained by 404 Media. Welcome to the Tokenpocalypse.

Got a new Dell Laptop at work & it comes with a COPILOT KEY next to the right Alt button. I thought OK, I can surely disable this key or remap it to Ctrl. Oh my friends, no. I was foolish. Searching for help came across this, Dell agents aren't even allowed to discuss remapping the copilot key.

"I don't care enough about my own prose to examine it myself" wow nice can't wait to read

Erik Hane@erikhane.bsky.social

more and more queries and project descriptions these days come in saying things like "I wrote the book of course--I only had AI check for grammar/help with line revision/etc." I just want to be clear: I do not want to see projects that have undergone that step

Lmao finally hit 100 followers yay 🥴 (I rly don't mind that much and all that but I think by only joining Bsky relatively recently instead of when the main exodus happened I missed my chance of ever getting close to the number of followers I had back on Twitter)

Went from two romance jobs back to back to an action-heavy thriller. My style sheets went from different ways to style bodily fluids and descriptions of people's genitals to names of weapons and helicopters. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a clear preference. Guess which?! 🙈 #AmEditing

The entire Microsoft 365 lineup runs so unreliably, slows down my computer processes, and frustrates our clients by asking them to log in even when they don't need to. But at least it's also an expensive subscription with poor integrations that also occasionally deletes saved folders for no reason.

At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/

Under no fucking circumstances will I give ChatGPT or any other "AI" permission to access my credit cards, and certainly not to debit cards or my to bank accounts, which don't have the same fraud protections credit cards do.

I wish people could spread fun misinformation instead of the bad kind. Like when I started a subtle but extremely effective campaign to make the internet believe Joanna Newsom had named her child Libertee-Byrd (nickname Libby) to the point where it truly became canon. Aaaah, youth...
