“Almost nobody”. Alright, nobody is gonna see Solar being the world’s largest power source by 2033.

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

🚗⚡ Electric car sales in Europe surged 70% in September, capturing almost 30% of the market. Higher oil prices, subsidies and more affordable models are accelerating the shift. The transition is becoming visible on Europe’s roads, not just in climate targets.

☀️ The world is installing solar at record rates. 🇨🇳 China's biggest solar manufacturers are still haemorrhaging jobs. Five companies cut 40,589 jobs in 2025 alone, as the industry struggles with massive overcapacity and collapsing prices.

What if concrete could help make our cities greener? 🇳🇱 Dutch company Respyre has developed a coating that lets moss grow directly on building facades, bridges and noise barriers, without soil or irrigation. A clever way to bring nature into urban spaces.

pragmatika.mediaA technology for growing moss on concrete has been developed in the Netherlands - PRAGMATIKA.MEDIADutch company Respyre has developed Mosscrete, a bioreceptive concrete that creates conditions for moss to grow on vertical surfaces.

👁️ Optogenetic gene therapy has helped people with advanced retinitis pigmentosa recover some functional vision, allowing them to locate objects and recognise doorways. Still early-stage, but a remarkable example of science turning fundamental discoveries into life-changing possibilities.

AI agents could make it easier than ever to exercise our rights. But what happens when the cost of submitting complaints, appeals and legal claims approaches zero? Researchers are investigating “agentic flooding”: when AI overwhelms public services with mass submissions. arxiv.org/abs/2608.16603

So, so happy that Oxford street has been pedestrianised. Looking forward to seeing the inevitable positive statistics and growth that will now follow.

Finally taking an EMR Class 810 Aurora for the first time and my goodness. After decades of pure shite, we finally do have some of (if not) the best trains in the country. If only they worked all the time - but so far so good! I still despair that these had to be bi-mode, and only have USB-A 😌

A woman walking past going “is this first class? It feels like first-class”. Yes it does. Of the many, many, many Class 810 Aurora failures, East Midlands Railway got the interiors perfect. 10/10 no notes. Finally feeling some pride.

But yeah. These bi-mode trains were so delayed that electrification of the Midland Mainline got cancelled partly because of them. There was also plenty of opportunity to admit USB-A was a short-sighted decision and change. Regional trains are being retrofitted with these interiors but with USB-C.

Surreal this is not [classroom distant-future problem] but [actual 2026 headline reality]

The ending statements of ITV's Undercover - A Year in Reform are FRYING ME. "Who... for unrelated reasons... has left Reform UK" 💀💀💀

Absolutely sat for ITV’s Reform UK investigation at 10:20pm on ITV1. That’s 10:20pm, ITV1 guys. ITV1 10:20pm. Just putting it out there.

The Eurovision Asia 2026 lineup is complete. Not the greatest, but there is potential. 🇰🇷 Junhee - Deep Dive is my favourite. 🇵🇭 Carmelle - Sobra-Sobra also strong, my second. 🇻🇳 Tóc Tiên - Em Tiên would be a favourite if it didn't feel like Blackpink - Jump. 🇧🇹 Nyendra - Lhayi semo is my wildcard.
