I've dreamed my entire career of writing an article like this. New in today's @nytimes.com: My profile of Tetris creator (and Seattle-area resident) Alexey Pajitnov, on the games, attempts, and failures he's worked on in the 40-year shadow of his most famous game. (Upshot: He's still designing.)

nytimes.comAfter the Triumph of Tetris, an Unsolved PuzzleAlexey Pajitnov, who created the ubiquitous game in 1984, opens up about his failed projects and his desire to design another hit.

autumnal split-screen video gaming club in North Seattle: how can I make this happen? does anyone have a spare room with power outlets and chairs to which I could bring multiple retro gaming systems? is there anything more ideal for a safe, publicly accessible venue than, I dunno, a church?

so, kind of what Omar's father was accused of, but in this case, the paperwork snafu actually happened in the year 2025, not (allegedly) in another country in duress decades ago - we should expect an even *swifter* WH and DOJ response, riiiiight?

Katie Drummond@katie-drummond.bsky.social

NEW: The DOGE operative who gutted USAID -- firing thousands of employees and canceling lifesaving programs -- never actually signed the paperwork that's legally required for him to be employed by the agency.

I finally found (blurry) stills of the You Can See Everything laptop moment. It includes the following: "system breaks people not rehab" "Burning man" "Ayn Rand with Justice Thomas Fountainhead movie" a full quotation of Teddy Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena" speech, starting with "Dad sent me this."

not a single thing Elizabeth Holmes says throughout the film reeks of this hyper-libertarian bullshit, and I wish the filmmakers poked at that topic, or her apparent Clarence Thomas apologia - which dovetails neatly into her "excoriate Seyfried but nobody else" bit.

this is why I can't add alt text to mobile posts until further notice, someone pls correct the vibe in @bsky.app's vibe coding asap

It's a serious #accessibility issue if alt text can't be properly entered and edited. In the example I pasted the first line and didn't touch it. I pasted it again after and tried to add further description, resulting in an absolute garbled mess as the cursor jumped around. @support.bsky.team

just got through watching some revisionist Pilotwings 64 history, so I am now compelled to spend 4 minutes of my life rewinding everyone to the context of 1996, in which two things were insane firsts: an approachable, kid-friendly 3D flight simulator, and one that could render actual distant detail

am I just posting this because I'm the one person you know who spent $40 on a bootleg vinyl LP version of the Pilotwings 64 OST? am I a smooth MIDI jazz apologist who wants to feel a little less alone in this crazy world? yes

Pilotwings consistently slapped together brand-new tech, chill tunes, and loose, limited gameplay. the first one was a barebones Model 7 tech demo. then we got a full-island flying thing that exceeded 15fps on the $200 N64! '90s dorks spent quintuple-plus that to fly on those dumbass Janes sims.

Don't Musk With Texas.

Team Talarico@teamtalaricohq.bsky.social

NEW AD: Have you seen these anti-Talarico attack ads? Elon Musk paid for nearly all of them. The world's first trillionaire knows if he drags the most corrupt politician in Texas across the finish line, Ken Paxton will owe him everything. Elon Musk: Texas is not for sale.

I cannot even with this Pinehurst homeowner in Seattle who posted not one, not two, but THREE signs chastising dogs who relieve themselves... on a public thoroughfare of grass... because they planted strawberries there. Bonus points for censoring "fucking" but not "shit."

#seattletransit trying to park my bike at Pinehurst Station light rail today for a lunch trip, and I find this. Over a dozen Lime bikes/scooters *carefully* placed in the way of the locking standees, as if Lime staffers did this. Malicious on their part. I had to lift two bikes to lock my own.

People’s lives and families are being wrecked to feed the propaganda beast that animates the Trump administration and the movement that supports it. Nowhere is there evidence of large numbers of non-citizen voters, so the Trump admin creates a spectacle to prop up the illusion.

Sam ICE.is.scary.enough🎃 Machkovech reposted

Yes. This is disgusting. The Trump admin manufacturing the evidence to support their conspiracy theories of widespread non-citizen voting. They arrest a tiny number of people (arrests crafted to draw attention), at least some of whom having no idea of the crime they’ve been accused of.

Talarico: "We just found out that [Elon Musk] is almost single-handedly bankrolling this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and defeat this movement...Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants his very own personal United States senator. He is trying to buy Texas."

looking for: a support group for people who inexplicably remember post-Nirvana grunge-lite songs in the middle of the day for reasons I cannot begin to fathom, my brain scrolled to Silverchair and hit "SHUFFLE" 😔

I just watched an anti-Talarico ad on NBC in which a fictional Texas parent alleged that Talarico would charge parents with "child abuse" if they didn't let their young kids explore gender transition therapy? Is that the best Musk can pay for in a down fucking economy?

This was likely mass reporting by inauthentic accounts - a common tactic of 4ch/gator scriptkiddies. It's a different kind of suck than assumed... but it COULD be regulated via pressure on platform holders to open their moderation tools to regulator scrutiny. Opacity is Meta's unearned edge.

Apparently at around 1:30 PM ET, the main accounts for the No Kings coalition on Instagram were frozen and pulled down. Admins have lost access to the account and are unable to log in. This happened at the peak of the organization's national day of action. Instagram, of course, is owned by Meta.

My first act as President would be to push for a reaffirmation and redefiniton of Net Neutrality. The American highways and biways of a nationwide ISP infrastructure are ultimately the PEOPLE'S to be regulated and opened / closed as citizens see fit. This is currently 100x as important as *roads*.

When Musk took over Twitter, the Guardian asked me for a piece. I wrote about how Musk, Trump and Putin would form an anti-democratic alliance and it would take popular civil resistance to topple them. They didn’t publish the piece. Anyway:

Regulators also sought to give Didier three stern wags of their finger, but the SPD Union negotiated that down to a single wag. (I'm joking, but ECB is not, with yet another incredible, exclusive report on Seattle's police force.)

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

Seattle police lieutenant Matthew Didier, caught on camera telling his fellow officers “We’re here to fuck people up” before SPD threw protesters to the ground and arrested them at an anti-trans rally last year, has been disciplined—with a verbal reprimand.

I'm struck by one detail: the tipping point is MS/Xbox's status as "BDS boycott targets," as opposed to listing particular requests. This language cleverly nudges MS *and* passersby to click through and learn more, instead of having a statement in its brief letter taken out of context. 🍉
