I’ve been after this shot for a very, very long time. Taken on a meandering walk home from the bar. Aurora + Sólfar

The police chief and county manager should resign or be fired. What’s the @arlingtonva.us board doing here?

Footage of Columbia Pike police shooting prompts calls to fix 'institutional failures'

The police chief missed the deadlines put in place by the county board and the county manager. Chief Penn also has been delayed in releasing the updated policy on body camera footage. At what point are there repercussions for missing deadlines for accountability and transparency?

Since @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social and many others are focusing on e-bike and scooter laws- I shall now create a bike commute diary. Today through the “protected” bike lanes in dc- 4 police vehicles with no lights on parked in the bike lanes, 1 DC school bus running a red light (1/2)

I think a lot of you might not know about this music but I assure that if you are a fan of indie rock, this is way more foundational and influential than you might realize, as it was very popular among the 90s American indie bands

Had a weird thought about the constant pattern of privileged groups "lecturing" marginalized groups who say, simply, their votes need to be earned by candidates. Privileged folks always seem to want to scold, shouldn't they be begging instead? If they're concerned about swaying the vote, I mean.

Reykjavík friends: an Albatross is heading for a landing there in about 40 min!

Not one, but two! Two! Drivers stopped where they were supposed to at stop signs and pedestrian crossings on my walk today. It’s sad that this is a noticeable thing and I think it might be a sign of the rapture, but here we are.

A reminder that you can see my solo show, Forces of Nature, at Harmony Hall through November 7. It's free. There's parking. I hardly ever have a solo show. You should go. #sciart www.pgparks.com/event_list/m...

Sometimes, when I run the telescope overnight and wake up and am cozy in bed (read: lazy and unwilling to get up), I’ll use the wide field camera on it to see what the weather is like outside.

Wow! Disgusting!!

Some rare good environmental news! 🌎 After decades of efforts to cut pollution, DC region has met federal air quality standards for ozone. The progress is remarkable: In the late 1990s, we had dozens of unhealthy air days per year. In 2026, just 5. Details: www.capitalweather.com/dc-region-sl...

My Friend, Tony Williams I first met Tony at X World in 2019 in Sydney. We'd corresponded on the Mac Admins Slack, and via email prior. But we didn't get a chance to meet until the auditorium in Sydney. Tony was a kind man, and an incredible conversationalist, and I remember a lot of great chats…

I honestly don't know how you can look at the universe and go: "You know what we should do? We should make a death dog. That's totally going to help!"

Policy idea to deal with "burdensome" traffic fines: If a driver is issued more than $1000 in traffic tickets, we should take away their license, thus ensuring they will not get any more fines.

This evening, I couldn't be bothered to put on two layers of pants and my big coat, so I simply hung out my balcony door to snap a picture of the green goddess. Even with the street lights, the sky still shines brighter. Reykjavík living at its best. #aurora #northernlights #iceland

I haven't stopped to actually view Niagara Falls in almost 30 years. What's good to do there for a few hours with an 8-year old. I was thinking Cave of the Winds, but I don't know what is really good this time of year. Anyone have thoughts?

We have reached Kp4 conditions. Absolutely beautiful #aurora substorm broke out just now in Iceland. Was lucky to be walking at the Reykjavík seaside when the #northernlights blessed us with a show. Loving this spectacle after weeks of dour weather here. What's in your sky this evening?

Monarchs and marigolds enjoying the sunshine today.

Someone just walked off my Metro train with a Capital Bikeshare bike. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good news. I hope that I have managed to secure my server enough that is not attacked as I was fearing. I have enabled the graph of the earthquake plots again. It takes the DNS information a little time to update and for this to work again because of that. skjalfti.com/tremoren.htm
