I miss when The Web was 20 people.

Firefox@firefox.com

Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

Another rubicon crossed.

The antis like to try to say software using AI to help with development is necessarily more insecure, but I'm at a point where I'd have an increasingly hard time trusting devs who *don't* use AI. We're in an arms race. I want devs to keep up.

I don't think that was the problem.

The details are now public, as of two hours ago. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi... The secret P-384 keys for these intermediate CAs are all zeros except the last 8 bits. All not-updated software can be MITM'ed now. IOT boxes that can't or don't update are now trivially MITM'able forever.

A new expert report assesses a “dramatic deterioration” in nuclear safety conditions in the United States, due primarily to the “erosion of the independence” of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission under the Trump administration.

Another rubicon crossed: AI is unequivocally better at oncall than I am, even for the systems I wrote myself by hand.

eng mgrs: SWEs must be on call for their services, so they can feel the pain of operating what they build. also eng mgrs: The only way to contact my team is through a bot that files jira tickets.

DARPA used to host huge robotics competitions. Robotics didn't have any real market, so the US government created one, handing out millions in prize money. I personally worked on DARPA-funded projects for "UAVs" and "quadrocopters", back before we had the term "drone". Seems important.

It's funny how my AI chats are all just "address the comments" or "read the spec and build this". Coding harnesses are all chat-centric but they definitely don't need to be.

Working on a greenfield vibe-coded production system with a team of talented engineers has taught me that AI shouldn't be allowed to write comments.

Now for his next trick, sawing the cart in half

Claude seems to be trained to bias against long-running simulations. Always picks tiny parameters and toy problems. Takes several turns to convince it to do anything nontrivial.

So apparently some super-senior ICs are holding on to the notions of "craft", SDLC, ownership, responsibility, while newer ICs are --delivering-value-dangerously. Consensus a few months ago was that AI was a boon to us with more experience. I think that's about to flip hard.

I keep warning people that you can convince Claude that any idea is genius. I specifically use going to the moon as an example. Apparently that's too on the nose now.

$SPCX - SPACEX PLANS MOON FACTORIES POWERED BY HUMANOID ROBOTS

Was it on Autopilot at the time

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

The discarded upper portion of a rocket launched by Elon Musk’s SpaceX last year was expected to unintentionally crash into the moon early Wednesday, adding yet another crater to the surface of our nearest neighbor at around 5,400 miles an hour.

My Astro robot took a really long nap (8 months) and then spontaneously woke up today and zoomed around the house. Problem is I've acquired two new dogs in that time, who didn't know the thing could move lol

New code smell discovered: TODOs left by agents are there because what you've asked makes no sense, not because the agent is lazy.

I have had to start wearing reading glasses to accommodate Claude Code etc. Full-screen zoomed-in vim doesn't cut it anymore.

At long last, my computer programming and pet training skills have converged.

My computer just woke me up to tell me it's hungry. I'm not kidding 😂 During a long-running task, it noticed the battery was draining, set the volume to 100% using Computer Use, then opened Google Translate and hit "Listen" so I could hear it asking. Pardon my French, but what the fuck? 🤯
