I think we’re talking potentially Horizon scale stuff here? Wtf is an AI-powered pension scheme? Just so many questions. How are we here again? 👇🏽👇🏽

"Comprehensively Failed": Capita's AI Pension Promise Exposed as Empty 🚨 the "most AI-enabled pensions service" promised to government simply never existed. www.computerweekly.com/news/3666527...

This speaks to me so much. Just a really great article about the structural and cultural sluggishness that still exists. ‘Culture is not just what an organisation says it values, but what it makes easy, difficult, safe, risky, worthwhile or pointless.’

At the Central Gov event this week, my colleague Harry and I tried our own version of Ready, Steady, Cook! 🍳 Harry had 15 minutes to prototype a government service, live with AI, while I explored what this could mean for how we deliver public services.

It raises practical questions about funding, procurement and governance. How do we embed accessibility, security and progressive enhancement into AI-assisted workflows? How do we equip multidisciplinary teams to use them?

As an ex-civil servant, I loved hearing from people across departments and ALBs afterwards. We talked about the art of the possible and the practicalities of making AI part of everyday delivery: ways of working, capability and procurement. Thanks to everyone who came over!

We weren't sure how far he'd get. By the end, we had a prototype to walk through, helping people find out roughly when their home was built. It was great fun seeing the reaction in the room as it came together! 😅 I was genuinely surprised by the energy from folks seeing the art of possible.

One of our key messages: When it costs less to try an idea, we can afford to explore more possibilities. Use the time and money saved to test more ideas with more users, earlier. Build richer, higher fidelity prototypes, explore whole user journeys and learn faster.

I gave this talk on Governing innovation to the Local AI team at MHCLG last week. We’re in a world of all this fast moving new tech, still a sizeable amount of old problems to solve! Today I presented it to a large-ish audience in Marylebone. Who doesn’t love a bit of hot governance chat on Friday?

LinkedIn algorithm is bizarre. You blog some great insight and it goes to about 5 people. You post one of these LinkedIn final boss ‘I’m attending X’ event pics and people you spoke to once 10 years ago see’s it 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyway I’m going to Central Gov event next week. If you’re about, hit me up!

This never happens to me. But over the weekend I went to a coffee shop at the precise time they were packing up these baked goodies. And she was like do you want any pastries? On us. I was delighted to accept this gracious offer. Timing was a fluke but I was a very happy bunny.

Full game of 8 a side footy. Just my second since Covid. Am I going to regret this in the morning? I am due to take my 3 year old to see a show tomorrow, thankfully it’s in the arts centre just round the corner.

The sticker on the dishwasher I bought said it was AI enabled. But now the flap which holds the dishwasher tablet is broken and it’s not cleaning properly. The AI is nowhere to be seen.

I made effort the to get the ironing board and iron out this morning only to now discover on the Jubilee Line that I’d only ironed one leg of my trousers 🤦🏻‍♂️

Why is this important? We see a lot of headlines from MPs about £X savings from these projects but the teams actually trying to deliver them walk through treacle to make progress.

We ran a survey at a roundtable event with senior leaders in gov, we had expected reputational risk or cost to be the key factors slowing down innovation projects. Turns out, they ranked governance processes as the single biggest barrier 💡

This is my new favourite news article of 2026. I'm all for sport innovation and making it more exciting for fans! "The course passed an independent technical assessment into its suitability. The assessment did not consider the crocodiles but instead looked at..." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympi...

I’ve been head down for a few months. Immersed in some gov departments. And again, building services and modernising legacy is the easy part. It’s all people and culture but that still takes the hard work.

Got to watch The Odyssey at the BFI IMAX last night. Pretty incredible movie, probably need to watch it again to really take it all in. Is it ok to say I preferred some of Nolan’s other movies? The cinema, though. Wow! What an experience.

I really don’t know what’s more frustrating. Seeing Saka and Rashford do the very thing we needed against Argentina or the obvious fact that France are not at all bothered about this game

Lovely weekend back in Istanbul with the lads. Started off 👎🏼 when I collapsed twice on the plane but once we got there things picked up. Lot of walks and delicious food and sights and laughter with old friends. Incredible city 🇹🇷

I watched an interview with Christopher Nolan describe the intricate process of filming with IMAX cameras, cutting the film, digitally editing it and then glueing it back together. Where can I watch The Odyssey in a IMAX 70mm screening?

Great second half! Loved that Saka/Rashford cameo at the end. Also Djed Spence, who is the first Muslim player to represent the senior England mens football team ❤️

Nice to see Test and learn gaining momentum in gov right now. Some gov folk have raised two questions. Leaders: if teams are experimenting, how does it tie back to strategy? Teams: Are OKRs and portfolios still the right framework? I think they matter more: rummanamin.co.uk/the-golden-t...

That thread is the line connecting your strategy to what teams actually do day to day. Strategy sets the outcomes, OKRs translate them, the portfolio makes it happen. Without the connection, the work quietly drifts from the intent and teams can feel isolated.

Under test and learn though. A team learns something, that becomes evidence, and the strategy evolves. It's a loop! In the past orgs worked in one direction. Their strategy never moves, and that's gold dust being throwin away.

At GDS we had the whole thing on a wall. Strategy, OKRs, outcomes, teams. Anyone could point at the line from their work up to why it mattered. A golden thread. That's the difference between a team that's part of bigger picture and pushing org/it's users forward.

At GDS we had the golden thread on a wall: strategy down to teams, every person able to point at why their work mattered. Under test and learn that thread comes to life. Intent flows down, learning flows back up. New post: rummanamin.co.uk/the-golden-t...
