SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

I would both say this is true and false: I agree that companies *expect* software development to be a thing of the past; however, the reality will be that software development will become cleaning up the messes and supporting the AI generated code. It will also become a significantly different job.

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

I don’t believe companies expect software development to durably exist as a profession in a decade or two. So this question is like asking who will be the senior milkmen and telephone switchboard operators?

Also, this will ultimately be worse for all parties. The companies think they're saving now, but it will end up like cord cutting: pay for the development; pay for the maintenance; what do you actually own; etc.

And the developers become @doctorow.pluralistic.net's reverse centaurs, trying to debug code written faster than they can possibly keep up with. The issue with agentic code development is that removes the governor that was naturally applied to bad developers.

The reality is that there is no non-violent way to non-consensually end a healthy human being's life. The effort spent to fool death penalty advocates into thinking they are participating in something clean and surgical makes an already barbaric spectacle disgustingly hypocritical as well.

Mike Tomlin is currently giving a tour of his boutique hotel in Minecraft, which has a multipurpose conference room and an appropriate number of public restroom and I’m losing MY MIND

It costs significantly more per unit to slop up a song than Spotify pays most artists for a year of streams & the artist has already eaten the production costs. Besides, outside of lofi chill, people don't listen to music this way. Maybe Muzak will be affected but I doubt the $ works there, either.

Do I think that we're going to get more AI in the music production process? Oh, yes, definitely (and there already is a lot). *Studio time* is really fucking expensive (on a lot of levels). It will continue to take jobs from session musicians and (especially) engineers.

There just isn't a legitimate solution to this which doesn't result in thousands of people currently working in the Federal government going to prison for many years

This will make it nearly impossible to file habeas petitions, because attorneys won’t even know what federal district their client has been moved to to stage for their removal. Something like a third of all people in ICE custody. apnews.com/article/ice-...

Every time I feel weird about the level of title-level sponsorship in college football, I look over at NASCAR. This is the race over on the CW for Saturday.

1) They don't have to host if the burden is too much, it's just priority. They can take the compensation and go on the road instead. 2) If you cannot host an MLS team and sell that game, you are dysfunctional. Two months is plenty of time. This problem also existed prior to this format.

By the way, this is my concern about the new U.S. Open cup format

The thing that kills me about the replies is why anyone in the year 2026 would think leaving the tech companies in charge of writing our maps is a remotely good idea.

Today over 161 TPS holders were deported to Haiti, a country dealing with an unspeakable humanitarian crisis. This is a cruel act by a callous administration. Our Haitian neighbors make our communities & our economy stronger. The Senate must immediately pass our bill to extend TPS for Haiti now.

I usually try to explain it like this: picture Tulsi Gabbard as Ice Spice. Now imagine they're Yinzer. Doesn't look so much like Chappaquiddick was caused by edgelords causing a schism in the Church now, does it?

Tennessee makes this a real "douche or turd sandwich" question. Can I go with city?

I'd be interested in some thoughts from Americans on here on an idea: Over the last 5 years, have you found yourself identifying more with your home state than the US as a whole over time?
