And now the second preprint of the lab! doi.org/10.64898/202... HY5 shoot-root movement is real and it is necessary and sufficient for the root developmental response to neighbour shading. This is a story in collaboration with the lab of @ronaldpierik.bsky.social + @kyravandervelde.bsky.social

Are plant roots really made up of concentric layers of homogeneous, differentiating cell types? In our new study, out now in @nature.com, we show a more complex picture: two distinct cell states within root lineages, shaped in part by the environment. 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our preprint now peer-reviewed and published 🌾🔬🧬 Grasses have a signature short-long leaf epidermal pattern: small stomata & hair cells spaced by long pavement cells, but how is it built? Premitotic BdPL1 sets cell-size asymmetry; postmitotic BdBRX-solo/BdYDA1 enforces fate. doi.org/10.1016/j.cu...
🌾 Every grass leaf shares the same repeating short-long cell pattern in its epidermis. Our new #preprint identifies the protein that builds it. 🔬🧬 📄 preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 🧵⬇️ 1/11

🌾🧬 Warming alters how rice roots split carbon between growth and respiration. Cortical cell expansion peaks at ~28°C; extremes shift carbon toward respiration. ABA mutants show reduced sensitivity. Root physiology matters for plant-soil carbon fluxes. #plantscience academic.oup.com/plphys/artic...
