So what’s it like to currently work on the Space Shuttle Engineering Mock-up? First of all it’s a collaborative effort. There’s about 10 of us, and we’re involved in restoration, exhibit design, interpretation, and developing a program to allow folks to tour inside both levels of the Crew Cabin.

Then we get to cleaning. Simple supplies in order to make sure we’re cleaning safely and not damaging the Space Shuttle Engineering Mock-up in any way. Once again, it’s not glamorous, and a lot of people would describe it as monotonous and go stir-crazy, but for us we find it to be very zen-like.

And if you get in the seat, you gotta get out of the seat. Space Shuttle Commander Seat Challenge? We’re 6’3” so it’s a challenge getting in and out of the Commander or Pilot seat. We’re never complaining about an airline seat ever again.

For the second half of today’s work we continued cleaning in the Crew Cabin. The first thing we have to do is set up all of our equipment. Ventilation, lighting, cleaning supplies, tools, etc. It’s not glamorous at all.
