Do you communicate online as part of your job? I'm working on a new project looking at how organizations can continue to communicate effectively without being vulnerable to abuse and radicalizing algorithms and I'd like to talk to you!

Some people get their favourite song stuck in their head all day. I get the Japanese lyrics to "if you're happy and you know it"

While I trust prediction markets as far as I can throw them, in the past I have found when betting with real bookies that this phenomenon means you can do quite well if you aren't right wing.

Alright BlueSky user, show yourself

British Voter@britishvoter.bsky.social

I'm a White British non-religious man from Richmond Park, in my twenties. My top issue is transport and infrastructure. In 2024 I voted Lib Dem. Today I still would.

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

BC progressives reading this skeet

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

If the Fascist International gets British Columbia and we get Serbia and Brazil I think that's a reasonable trade

I am mad enough about the election result without needing British BlueSky to be aware of it, but if anyone wants my commentary as a BC-knowing British politics follower: "Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgh"

James Ball@jamesrball.com

1. Call an early election because the opposition is in chaos 2. Early election causes opposition to stop being in chaos 3. Polls move against you 4. Oh. *Really* against you (Conservatives will be majority government). 5. Resign

I will say virtually every take I have seen on the result, and they have been mercifully few, has been bad and wrong and based on heuristics about politics derived from elsewhere.

Anyone uttering the words "snap election" is going to receive a tarot card in the post of David Eby flying a hot air balloon into power lines

NEW headline voting intention from Ipsos 📊Labour on 32% with a lead of +8 – the largest Labour lead Ipsos have recorded this parliament 📊Conservatives take second place the first time since June 2025 📊Reform UK down 3 points and Greens down 5

It remains my prior that BC will unthinkingly vote for a Conservative government because they're kinda bored of the NDP, then it will be a terrible government everyone hates but we'll infight ourselves into giving them 15 years in power Anyway if you don't want that to happen go and vote tomorrow

Our neighbours should probably be informed that squirrels are living in their roof but if they are, I might not be able to watch the roof squirrels and their antics any more

You know how whenever the right wants to mock government spending they find some $100k spent on toad research or whatever, well they're about to spend a billion dollars to create never-before-seen types of dog cancer

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

This has been a great project to work on alongside @kkennedyryan.bsky.social who designed the new brand, which I've found really interesting to play around with. It's the biggest website project I've ever taken on and I'm very happy with the results! Check it out here: hospitaldoctorsunion.org

Intriguing false recall going on here. In 2024, Milton Keynes North only had candidates from Labour, the Tories, Lib Dems, Greens and Reform. I suppose she must have moved from another seat fairly recently.

British Voter@britishvoter.bsky.social

I'm a White British non-religious woman from Milton Keynes North, in my forties. My top issue is crime. In 2024 I voted for a smaller party. Today I don't know who I'd vote for.

Brick. Some great moments and a fun vibe, which goes on just a BIT too long and left me a bit bored.

This reminds me that there is a CBC journalist called Anita Bath, who must have developed some very thick skin over the years.

A thought on Alberta. I'm very pleased to see the separatists crushed, but I'd caution against thinking that this means the issue is buried. A lesson I draw from Brexit is that now you've had the referendum, you've introduced independence as a Notion, a Thing that people feel legitimated to support.

The separatists kind of have a point when they say Danielle Smith didn't try. She doesn't want independence, she wants the problem to go away (which it won't). What does 24% this time turn into with a determined campaign from a committed UCP leader?

Anyway, I'd expect support to recede for a while, as it's seen as settled for the time being and will cease to have the financial backing of the hostile state next door. But keep an eye on it, because complacency is how that box gets reopened in a generation.

While it only received 24% support, that proportion will be much higher within the UCP, and while that party continues to be the natural governing party, they're going to be the organizing target for continuity separatists. If the UCP starts talking that language, it's going to be legitimised.

If BC gets a Conservative government because the progressive voters are bored by having to have an election while Alberta, *Alberta* has managed to figure it out, I'll never be able to look it in the face again

Going through County County election results for a work thing and my god things are dire for Labour in rural areas. We have, as far as I can tell, 60 county councillors in the whole of England.

It's also darkly funny how badly the election cycle has kept being for Labour county councillors. 2025: Everyone hates Keir Starmer 2021: Everyone loves Vaccines Boris 2017: Everyone loves Theresa May 2013: Broadly fine 2009: Everyone hates Gordon Brown

Rather unexpectedly looks like I'll be heading to the Philippines for a week next April. Do give me your recommendations!
