Tube web spiders arrived in Bristol sometime around the 1700s after hitching a ride on merchant ships arriving from the Mediterranean. They burrow in holes in walls and form distinctive webs within. Their bite is said to be very painful but as they seldom leave their burrows, bites are quite rare.

Imagine a world where we are no longer dependent on oil and nuclear energy. It's coming and it's better and that's why the vested interests are doing everything in their power to stop it

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

Prince Maurice's grave is interesting, because it was a good example of the conflicting thoughts families had. Princess Beatrice refused repatriation of the body. She felt he belonged with his men. But she fought for years for the right to spend her own money on a custom headstone. This was blocked

Lib Dems, third for most of my life, have never had anything like this. The party currently has over 70 MPs but is almost invisible. Yet when they do a stupid stunt for attention, the media gets very angry. Maybe, you know, stop just platforming Farage all the bloody time?

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

It's always worth reiterating that freedom of movement is a two way thing. As someone who benefited from it as a student in the 1990s, I'm very glad that the issue is being discussed again in the UK. It would be nice if it could be in a sensible way this time.

Followers will know I'm far from an uncritical Andy Burnham or Labour fan. But as Prime Minister of an actual government, with a huge majority, I'd say he has more of a mandate than a part-time MP leading a bunch of racist malcontents forever falling out with each other! Wouldn't you?

I get really confused by Gresley's 2-8-0s. He seemed to keep tinkering with them and creating multiple variants and sub classes. No 63965, on a pick up goods at Essendine in September 1956, is I think, a plain O2, and not one of the many he futtered about with, unless my 1957 abc has got it wrong.
