My book covers are cowboy towns. When a client asks for layered files there's nothing behind the windows. The sky has building shaped holes in it.

Mrs Mounter was Harold Gilman’s landlady at 47 Maple Street, just off Tottenham Court Road in London. Here, she is pictured at the breakfast table. According to Gilman, breakfast was often shrouded in a haze of smoke, thanks to Mrs Mounter’s forgetfulness. This is from 1916.

There is a version with a chair, I wonder if it was painted out or added. It makes a more satisfying composition which is maybe why I like it less.

Cleaning folders, I found this collab with my sister that I still enjoy. We should make whole comic like this :D (this cover was commissioned by a friend :D )

In the early part of the 20thC, the Swiss artist Hans Emmenegger began making recurrent themes of enigmatic, dark forest interiors, exploring the optical effects of light and colour. This work was painted in 1933.

The menhir of La Tiemblais in St-Samson-sur-Rance (Côtes-d’Armor) lies at angle of 45 degrees due to excavations by C19 treasure seekers; if upright it would be 7m tall. One of several traditions is that it blocked 1 of 3 entrances to Hell. Card by Rouxel in Dinan c.1905.

Backrooms has some really groovy things in it but it doesn’t seem to be about anything. Maybe films don’t need to be about anything. Maybe it’s about something but I couldn’t tell what it was. Yellow.

Maybe it’s about a breakdown and retreating from the world, along the lines of something like Repulsion? Anyway it was directed by a 20 year old, I couldn’t tie my shoe laces at that age.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is an enchanting piece of music if you like to imagine your toys coming to life and murdering you with their tiny implacable hands.

I finally got round to watching Robin Redbreast (1970), It definitely felt like a staging post on the way to the Wicker Man. A common lament - production values aside it puts most modern telly to shame.
